We're the same with our 15 year old who is often left during the day but not at night. So much so that when we go away he will go to his Grannys with the dog (5 min walk away) to stay over and then come back home in the morning.

It's a very grey area but in the unliklely event of there being a problem the NSPCC guidelines that children under 16 should not be left alone overnight seems to be what is used although there are no actual legal "rules".
