The difference is pretty marginal unless you have a VERY big bill.
On a family eating out in a restaurant and running up a $100 bill, tax is under $6 of that. If you're tipping at 20%, that means the difference in the tip between pre-tax and post-tax is about a dollar. Yes, that's one dollar.
No server is going to be melting in front of your for an extra dollar.
