Yeah, it's called marketing.
These sales (whether Black Friday, Boxing Day, New Year, Easter, whatever) are usually just small discounts with big banners meant to drum up custom and entice people to buy. There's a good chance you could've got the items for the same price at other times of the year.
For some reason, some people like to buy things when they are told they're getting a "bargain". Whether it actually is a bargain or not isn't really important. It's about being happy with the purchase.
