I won't promise a full on trip report so may do daily updates or a mini trip report (or both) I shall see how it goes. As some background this is our second west coast trip. There is myself, DH, chief
planner and mad keen runner, hence the trip title, DW, celebrating a big birthday shortly after we return so this trip is honour of that, not that we need an excuse for a holiday. Decisions made this time are in part what we didn't have time to do in 2013. We previously flew into Vegas, then had 2 days in Anaheim, we have unfinished Disney business
then we had 2 days in Santa Monica, onto Santa Barbara where I ran the marathon, then Monterey and finished in San Francisco. This is what we are up to this time. Sadly no marathons to my DWs relief. 1 Oct fly Man to LAX, 3 nights near Venice Beach and Marina Del Ray in an Airbnb apartment, no car but we have bikes included. The plan is to take it fairly easy as jet lag really hit us in Chicago last year. 4 Oct, taxi to LAX Alamo rental, 330 mile drive to a B&B in Mariposa. Next 2 days in Yosemite Park. 7 Oct drive to Anaheim, now if we have the energy I may go via Death Valley which is a big detour but probably our only chance to experience it. Either way we have a long drive. Then we have 4 nights at Doubletree Hilton. Have a 3 day park hopper ticket and also doing Halloween party and surprise trick or tea for DW. 11 Oct drive to Palm Springs including a detour into Joshua Tree Park. 12 Oct aerial tramway and Air Museum (for me) DW will shop I think. 13 Oct drive to La Jolla 4 nights in an apartment close to sea. I may go to the Chargers game than afternoon depends on time and energy. Next 3 days will explore San Diego, Old Town, Balboa Park and Gas Lamp area. Also aircraft carrier. Maybe a drive to Oceanside/Carlsbad and some relax time in La Jolla. 17 Oct drive to airport with a stop at Huntingdon Beach...fly home
