Have a read through my trippie for highlights (although i havent finished the non disney parts yet)

For Kyoto, go to Nara and feed the deer. Hire a yukata, have a tea ceremony (i recommend Oona Tea house in Kyoto).

We went in july when it was aroynd 30C+ it was still very do-able though.
