Hi everyone!
With only a month to go until our trip I thought I would give my first pre-trip report a go!
The who?
Me: 35, been to Canada once, but it was back when I was 19 - I spent 2 months living in Vancouver and a month travelling in the West in my uni holidays. I did go to Toronto, but I got about 5 hours there due to a flight change so I did a very quick half asleep quick trip around the centre! I love cramming as much as possible into a day and am very excited for pancakes and poutine!
BF: 36, never been to Canada, but excited to visit. Less keen on the early mornings, but can usually get him up and out with the help of coffee and the promise of bacon. Is excited for all of the food, but especially poutine!
The when?
Flights to Toronto on the 9th October, and returning 2 weeks later. Flying with BA out of Gatwick and back into Heathrow.
How it came about?
We did a road trip in California last year and loved it so really wanted to do another. Then I saw some cheap flights to Toronto and decided to book 2 weeks and then work out a route and ideas later on!
The what?
3 nights: Toronto
2 nights: Hamilton
1 night: Kingston
3 nights: Ottawa
2 nights: Tobermory
2 nights: Blue Mountains
1 night: Toronto
More detailed plans
I am still working out some of the details and welcome any input! Here are some rough plans for each place:
Toronto:
CN Tower (probably just to see the view, the food is too fancy for me!), distillary district, St Lawrence market, Eaton Centre, Toronto islands, Hockey Hall of Fame. I had really wanted to see an ice hockey game, but there is nothing on when we are there sadly
Hamilton:
We are going to Niagara Falls for one of the days we are here - going to do the behind the falls tour (not the boat as I get very sea sick), hopefully go onto rainbow bridge, see Niagara on the Lake and the illumiations at the falls. Not really sure how we are going to fit all these things in so open to suggestions
Also any suggestions on the best place to park?
Hamilton day - going to tour around some of the many waterfalls
Kingston:
We are spending two days driving from Hamilton to Ottawa along the coast of the lake, staying at Kingston on the way. Current ideas include: Sandbanks provincial park, Gananoque, 1000 islands... open to more suggestions!
Ottawa:
Parliament tour, changing of the guard, parliament library... not sure what else yet
Tobermory:
This stop is to see the Bruce Peninsula - not sure exactly where to go yet, but it looks pretty
Blue Mountains:
Need to look into this more too, but we are staying in the heart of it all so I am hoping it will be obvious what there is to go and explore
Toronto (again)
One night stop before getting the flight - we will finish up anything we didn't manage in the first few days.
Anyone with more experience of this than me please jump in with suggestions and comments
We are getting very excited now as it is so close.
