They can't charge an extra premium without knowing exactly what is going on, it would be a roll of the dice for them. this condition usually doesn't cause too many problems and often rectifies itself quite quickly needing no treatment but sometimes treatment is needed. It can leads to vision loss though and require steriod treatment which would be costly whilst in the states.

A risk factor for this condition is high altitude.
