I tried this with a gmail account a few months ago. I gave up in the end. Tried so many times and contacted them through their web page. Nothing.
I have decided to redo all my email to use a domain registered to me and forward to a gmail (or other) account. When this happens again, then just re-forward to another account.
Learnt my lesson that once you have a problem with these types of accounts - your email address seems to be gone for ever.
