In the end we had a tree removed from the end of the garden and went for paving as we just thought it was easier and more practical now dd is 13. We love our new courtyard garden and it's so easy to maintain and actually seems bigger as we can use all the space.

I want fully paved but DH wants the grass I think like you that the paving is easier long term although I do have a boisterous 5yo and 8yo
