Summer 2016 - The Big Birthday Trip - Day 7 : Busch Gardens

Trip Index

A first for us, not Busch Gardens, but the actual driving to Busch Gardens. It was a straightforward run, however we did get a little mixed up at the end and ended up going through multiple roundabouts.

Parking at Busch was free on the back of our SeaWorld tickets, a bonus!

First ride of the day here always seems to be Cheetah Hunt, today would prove no different since Cobra’s Curse wasn’t due to open for another hour or so. Another thing that didn’t change is me getting completely lost after Cheetah Hunt and heading the wrong way while trying to find Montu. At this point, Cobras Curse was open, so we jumped in the queue.

Cobra’s Curse is a lot of fun. It’s a great family coaster with a fantastic lift hill. The ride is split in to three seperate sections, one part is ridden forwards, one part backwards and one part freely spinning. We loved it.

From here we walked up towards the Africa section to see some animals. There would only be one Busch trip this year so we just did our best to enjoy our favourite bits of the park. So for a while before the heat really picked up we managed to check out Hippos and Hyena.. We noticed the Hyena being quite active, as it turns out the female had recently given birth to a pup. We didn’t see the pup, but we loved to watch the male taking a cooling bath and checking out the enclosure.

We also spent a lot of time checking out the animal ambassdors, handily in a shady area to take the edge off the heat. It was pretty cool to see animals here that we’d seen back on our first trip in 2010!

Next up, elephants, who enjoyed a shower from a hose pipe held by one of the keepers. We also had a chance to check out some veterinary work on a native bird which had been brought in with a damaged wing.

Falcons Fury… On our last trip we’d been most upset to find out that it broke down as we arrived. This time the queue seemed to be showing 0 and we thought maybe it was down again. But no, it was a walk on.

What an interesting ride. The real nasty part is the slow rise to the top. It seemed to take ages! Gem didn’t like this part. The drop bit wasn’t too bad after that! Quite exhilarating though!

After a bite to eat we headed to my favourite part of Busch Gardens. The tiger enclosure. I spent an absolute age watching them, I always do. We also spent time watching a female Orangutan who spent some time in the window, intrigued by all her visitors.

Time for pudding! Gem picked out a red velvet funnels cake which we all tucked in to. It was quite lovely! We then slowly headed back down to the front of the park checking out animals including some really cute baby Flamingos.

Definitely a relaxing day for us in Busch today, no rushing and not a huge amount of rides. But we did get to ride the new coaster, so all was well.

Tonights dinner was another new one for us, somewhere we’ve been recommended quite a lot in the past.. The Outback Steakhouse. Yes, we got a Blooming Onion. The food and the service were excellent, we’d definitely have to visit this one again!
