Shall we, sharn't, oh for goodness sake book it! Day 10
So we're up early and get sorted after a feast of cornflakes and coffee, I've given up with the tea, I don't know what the problem is, I bought Sainsbury's tea bags with me and it's still vile!
Housekeeping are knocking on the door, it's not 8am yet, give me chance, we don't actually have to check out till 11am! It's been a frost, minus 2 so it's pretty nippy, especially in shorts and flip flops! Long drive today to the Grandest of Canyons! Sat nav says 5 hrs 10 minutes. It's a bit of a pain but we have to drive back 60 miles the same way we came to get back on the road we need. More stunning scenery, it seems to be Canyons and cliffs to the left and flatlands to the right. Our ears are popping like crazy, we drive from 8000ft to 800ft in just a few minutes, the temperature goes up by 10 degrees! We spot water! We have entered the Glen Canyon Dam recreation area. (Anyone seen Evolution? This is where it was filmed!) we've stayed in Page years ago so do recognise some of it. We stop at an overlook just before we approach the Dam. We then call at the Visitors Centre to use the loo and take some Dam photos.😜 Dinosaur prints! We stop at Cameron for fuel and a Burger King, I have a Parmesan chicken thing, not impressed and most of it goes in the bin. To top it off I rip my shorts climbing back in the car, you may remember I did this with another pair last Christmas, they've served me well, at least 15 years old! Richard gets me a pair out of the suitcase and I climb in the back of the car to get changed. I mange to dislocate my thumb in the process! Both my thumbs and my big toes are hyper mobile and they often do this! Many swear words are muttered, it doesn't matter how many times they dislocate, it hurts like hell every time! We set off again and before long we are in the National Park. We stop at Desert View overlook to take photos and drink water! It's really busy here, not like last time we were here about 18 years ago! Richard is starting a headache, probably because he drove all the way, he wouldn't let me drive after the thumb incident! We head to the South exit and Tusayan. We'll explore more tomorrow! We check into our hotel, the Best Western Premier Grand Canyon Squire Inn, bit of a mouthful, 18 years ago it was the BW Squire Inn and it was a little motel! Not any more! It's huge, still very nice and the pool is the same! Tusayan has changed too, not very big but very busy, just the Main Street of a few shops and restaurants and a gas station, with the airport at the end of the road! After some down time we head out to look for somewhere for dinner. We head to a place called 'We cook pasta and pizza' this place is amazing! We order a 14 inch chicken, bacon and artichoke pizza with mozzarella sticks and take them back to the room. The best pizza ever! $35 of yummyness! We only eat just over half of it, we can eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. I've since discovered that according to 'Pizza Today' magazine the pizza place is one of the top 100 independent pizzarias in the Country! Edited at 03:55 AM. |

Another day of stunning scenery!
Ouch for your thumb. Can you pop it back in? Is that even possible? Lunch sounds gross but the pizza looks delicious! Thanks for sharing again!

Fabulous scenery today. Don't know how you cope with your thumbs and toes dislocating though - I'm wincing just thinking about it.
