I guess we're grown ups now? Nah, maybe next week! Oct 2016 Part 1 - Day 8 Orlando Bound

Index

Day 8 of Vegas/Travel Day of Orlando - 11.10.16

It was time to say goodbye to Vegas. Super sad face. But since we were not even half way through our holiday and still had two weeks in Florida to look forward to we still had super smiley faces.

We were up at 8am, got the rest of our stuff packed away and said farewell to our amazing suite. I checked out, ordered us an Uber and we went outside to wait for our lift.

I was really sad to be leaving the Vdara. I literally could not fault this place at all! It was lovely and quiet with it not being a casino hotel, it was beautiful and modern, amazing pool, amazing rooms, so much space and our amazing view. Some people may not like the long walk just to get out onto the strip but we really didn’t mind it and actually enjoyed walking through the Bellagio every day because it’s a beautiful hotel. I'd stressed a lot about staying here because it wasn't one of the main hotels and it wasn't right on the strip but I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Our Uber arrived at 9 and we were soon arriving at the airport. We used the outside bag drop cause it was there and we had no idea you had to part with dollars to use it and that the free ones were inside! The guy that served us was really great though. He asked which soccer team we support. Ross doesn’t support a specific team, he just likes Spurs, Man United and West Ham. I’ve been brought up a Spurs fan so we went with that and the guy showed us the screensaver on his phone, the Liverpool logo. Oh dear! After a bit of football banter between the men (Ross was impressed with this guys knowledge of English football) we were checked in and bag free. We were flying to MCO via Chicago O’Hare so I had more boarding passes in hand than I’m used to! Must. Not. Loose. Any.

Security was super quiet so that was a breeze then we went to the shop to grab some snacks and I nabbed the last of my Vegas magnets. I do love my little display on the fridge at home now, makes my smile when I think of all the laughs we had on our jollies!

We got the train through to our gate area then went in search of food! We really didn’t know what we fancied and ended up getting some tuna melt sliders with fries, not sure of the name of the spot we got them from though! Literally had so shove them in our faces at super speed cause they started boarding as soon as we sat down!

They were asking people to check larger hand luggage items into the hold but since we had another flight to rush to and our cabin bag had my wedding dress in there was no way I was parting company with it!
The plane was fairly basic. It had a 3-3 layout and no seatback entertainment etc. There was a United app that you could use to watch movies and stuff but we didn’t find out about that till we got on the plane and obviously couldn’t download it with no wi-fi! I slept for most of the flight. No idea what Ross did! I’m sure he amused himself somehow!

Goodbye Vegas!

We touched down at 4pm local time and, since we only had one hour layover time, hot footed it through the airport to the next gate, stopping briefly to use the restrooms and purchase a Chicago magnet. Priorities!

Hello Chicago!

Once at our gate we discovered this airport’s super good boarding method. Everybody had a letter on their ticket (A, B, C etc) depending on where they were sitting and there were different queues roped out at the gate so everyone in group A queued together, everyone in group B blah blah blah. So instead of people ignoring the announcement of ‘everybody in rows 25-30 please board’ it was super organised and if you were trying to be sneaky and board before it was your turn by going into the wrong group you got sent to the back of the queue in your actual group.

Boarding started at 5:10pm and I quickly used the airport wi-fi to download the United app so we could watch a film.
It was a 2 and a half hour flight which was just enough time to munch on snacks and watch Captain America which was excellent! We’d never seen any of the Captain America films before and it only took Chris Evans going from scrawny Steve to buff C.A to get me hooked! Yum.

I was so pleased when we landed in Orlando! The next part of the holiday was starting. Squeeeee!

As we’d done an internal flight, there was no dreaded immigration to contend with! So it was a quick hop on the monorail and through to baggage collection where our Quicksilver driver was waiting for us. It didn’t take long for our bags to come off, but unfortunately, one of them was ripped the entire length of it! They were piggin’ brand new! I was raging. Our driver told me to go to the luggage office and let them know about it. The lady in the office (which was brilliantly decorated for Halloween!) was really nice and said that I just need to fill in a quick form and they would give us a new case. I wasn’t expecting much as the cases we had were huuuuuuge and super lightweight but the one she brought out was even bigger! And it was hard shelled rather than the fabric ones we had so it wouldn’t tear on the way home. I was chuffed! We just had to transfer the contents of the broken case into the new one, I left Ross to do that while I finished the form and as he had to do it on the table in the office, thank God all the dirty undies were in the other case!

Once we had swapped everything over and given the lady our broken case we were on our way! We followed our driver (who’s name I obviously can’t remember cause I keep calling him ‘driver’, rude) out to our vehicle to discover we’d been given a cheeky upgrade! We’d booked a town car but this guy was driving an SUV. Not that it makes any difference, not like it was a limo but it was still nice!

The drive to the hotel was pretty uneventful. We chatted to the driver about our time in Vegas and our plans for Florida etc and before we knew it we were back on familiar territory, driving up I-Drive and parking up outside the Rosen Inn @ Pointe Orlando! We paid the driver $84 which included his 20% tip that had been automatically added to the bill which they do for all international customers. We would have tipped him that amount anyways I think. He was a lovely guy, friendly, great driver and waited patiently for us while we sorted out the cases.

Ross brought the bags in while I got us checked in. We got block A, floor 4, room 1409. Now I have nothing against Rosen Inn, it’s a great budget hotel in a great location on I-Drive but spending a week in 5 star luxury had obviously turned us into snobby hotel wombles, cause it felt like a bit of a bump back to earth and we were looking forward to getting to the Hard Rock in a few days time!

By now we were starving so after dumping the bags in the room we went over the road to Pizza Hut. I was fairly pooped by now so we opted for a take away. We ordered 6 buffalo wings, a large meat lovers, a 2ltr bottle of Pepsi and a Bud Light which came to $40 including tip. It really opened our eyes to the cost of food in Vegas! We had almost forgotten what it was like to pay regular prices for food!

Ross stopped at the hotel shop on the way back to the room to get some more beers then we tucked into our feast while watching Big Bang Theory on TV.
Once finished it wasn’t long till we were in bed and asleep! No alarms for the next few days thank god!

Just a bit! We're not well to do, fancy or snobby people in the slightest (scum of the earth maybe ) but we didn't think we'd be able to do two full weeks there like we did in 2012 and it was nice to know we had HRH in a couple of days.
Thanks for reading
