We have also just booked this trip today (Denver to Yellowstone back to Denver) late May early June what advice do you guys have for booking hotels and how long do you stay at each town, do you book as you go along ? I know I need to get booking Yellowstone maybe 2 nights east side and 2/3 on the west side of the park, any help with which hotels to book would be great. Who did you book the guided tours in the park with ?
I have 3 weeks to fit as much as possible in.

We planned our route and knew where we aimed to stay each night and booked mainly motels through hotels.com - you can probably just turn up in many places but we knew some of the towns we’d be going through were small and didn’t fancy sleeping in the car!
Our tour in Yellowstone was booked through Xanterra who manage many of the National Parks in the US.
If you are going next year I’m afraid that you are unlikely to get any accommodation within Yellowstone, it gets booked up really quickly from when they start taking bookings in May (for next year). Even the campgrounds often have no availability. By booking a tour with Xanterra we were guaranteed our hotel rooms and you still may be able to book a tour - just google Xanterra and then select Yellowstone.

When we go back in 2020 we will probably book the Snow Lodge at the Old Faithful site and Canyon Lodge - these are at opposite ends of the park and both were super places to stay.
I’d love to stay at the Old Faithful Inn (the Wilderness Lodge is based on this) but it’s very expensive.

I would think that would be the going rate for Snow Lodge Cabins - it is so expensive to stay in the park but really worth it IMO, you would be in a short walking distance of Old Faithful

If the cancellation policy is free then go for it. If the price drops and the exchange rate doesn’t affect it too much then you’ll be quids in 😁

I thought I’d just bump this up as I’m still doing lots of planning.

For those who have been previously do you have any recommendations for must eat restaurants / cafes / bars? I like to have an idea of great places to eat!

I love the idea of a boat float down snake river so I’ve got that saved and looking into guided tours! Still trying to find some more bits to fit in!

For anyone who has done the road trip from either Denver or SLC are there any towns that you stopped in / visited on the way to or from that you loved and would definitely recommend visiting?
