Our family is hoping for an August holiday over there and I’ve just booked flights for 14 of us for 4 weeks from 24 July.

But this is about where it’s clever to work out where you are with insurance vs cancellations. If you can cancel for free or get your money back because advice remains not to travel, you don’t need the insurance to pay out. I have a cut off date where, if we can’t travel, we won’t be able to get full refunds so that’s the point where We’ll have to make a decision on whether to cancel. However, as long as FCO say travel is ok, regardless of when we booked, I know we’ll be covered for medical and accommodation costs if we get ill when out there.
Interestingly, we’re not covered if we don’t have recommended vaccines |

I am hopeful for August 28th but from Scotland and it looks like travel for us will be a bit later than England. Hoping its 3rd time lucky 🍀 and we don't need to find another date

We’re booked for august including a 4 day cruise!
Never planned to do the Disney parks with this trip and the cruise was booked in feb 2019 so still keeping our fingers crossed.

I don’t think your an idiot, it’s good to have something to look forward to. I’ve booked a few things but they’re fully refundable, pay on arrival (no penalty for cancelling) or deposit only with the rest being payable much later in the year. I’ve had a few holidays cancelled and haven’t been upset about any, I’ve come to realise I enjoy the planning and research more than the holiday!

We may all (or mostly) be vaccinated by August, but overseas may not. Even if we are vaccinated, we can still carry the virus. Also where we travel to overseas may not be as far along in their vaccinations, and we may infect people. Or if we get ill, we may need their hospitals..which may be full treating their Covid patients.
So I think we need to be careful before opting to head overseas. |

We fly on the 6th August. ! week onsite at OKW and then a couple of nights at Hard Rock Hotel before moving to a villa for some pool time and a week hitting the malls, beach and parks. Me and Mrs McFluff are in our 40's so will have had our first jabs and possibly even our second by then. We are supposed to be travelling with our extended family so while we would be happy to go I'm not sure about the others. We will have another look at things in June (when we need to pay or delay) and make a more informed decision then.
I think it's probably more important that the US get their vaccine roll out sorted and infection numbers start to go down there. The US are a long way behind when it comes to vaccinating their people but they seem to be catching up. If we have to move it I guess we will move to Spring 2022. I don't want to wait that long! |

Do you think this could be too risk adverse when AZ cuts your risk of hospitalisation by 94% and if the hospitalisation rate under 60 is about 1%, the risk of going to hospital with Covid is maybe about 0.06% even if you catch it. And of course, chances are you won’t. So reduce that 0.06% many times over, particularly given the US will be well along with its programme by summer and the vaccines do cut transmission.
If you have been vaccinated the risk seems tiny to me. You can be so risk adverse you’ll end up never going anywhere. Seems this risk is not going away anytime soon, just like many others.
