I've just had email from BA
They say they are sorry but our flight MCO -LGW on 28th is now cancelled, they will contact when they can offer an alternative flight home, it will not be from MCO and they will not pay for us to travel to an alternative airport, this isn't a problem for us as we have a car and are willing to drive wherever is necessary. They also say if we choose to book our own alternative flight either with BA or an alternative airline then they will not be responsible for any costs incurred. So we will just sit it out here in the glorious sunshine.

I checked Manage my Booking this morning and noticed our flight had been cancelled on 31st March so rang up changed to MCO-MIA-LHR. I hadn't received a cancellation email but had previously been told that unless the flight was officially cancelled you had to pay. Will watch my credit card carefully but certainly no mention of extra payment was made on the phone call so hope it is free.
Can anyone post a copy of the email they received on here at all please - starting to worry about the cost now. |

Actually under the circumstances they probably can. BA like all other airlines are only allowed to fly to into/out of about 11 airports in the US for international flights hence why they may have to wait. The US might even ban all international flights so how do you expect BA or any airline to get them home then? The OP will have to claim of their travel insurance for any additional costs as its not BA's fault this has happened.

I think I saw a post on Facebook where someones flight from Orlando or Tampa (can't remember which) to Gatwick was cancelled and BA routed them to Dallas and then Heathrow - they certainly didn't mention being charged.

This has always been the policy, that they can refuse to compensate you if you choose to book seperatly.
