Pets and antifreeze

We've just come back from the emergency vets after having our ten year old cat Berry put to sleep. We had to do this because she had acute kidney failure, brought on by antifreeze poisoning. I am choosing to believe this is accidental, not deliberate, as we live in a nice area and she had gone missing for a couple of days befre she came home with this, so she may have been stuck in a shed or somewhere.

I'm not looking for sympathy, but what I would like to do is remind people to:
a. keep antifreeze safely in sealed containers
b. clear up spillages so there is none lying around
c. keep an eye on your pets - this has been a horrible morning and I wouldn't want anyone else's pet to suffer.

I’m a cat owner too and this is what scares me if that happened to him.
I too hope it wasn’t intentional and someone has been careless with spillage etc.
I know your not looking for sympathy but I’m so sorry this has happened to you and your loved moggy

All manufacturers should be making antifreeze taste horrid by now instead of a select few😡

I'm so sorry for your loss and the circumstances. Anti freeze should be made to not taste or smell nice. People should be more careful. Poor kitty x

Ten years ago one of my cats died from this and it was deliberate - several local cats died of it.
I spent £1,000 catproofing my garden that year and none have been allowed to roam since. Its an awful way to die for them

Absolutely awful.i dread to think this was deliberate, but in this world.. who knows.
