Not a tipping thread
I've been listening to the Food Programme on R4 and it's all about restaurant tipping and really interesting
bbc/programmes/m00040h7 so you might want to listen on catch-up if you're wondering whether to or not |

Interesting program! I do always think you should tip, especially in the states. People may argue that it's not their problem that the government and companies allow such low wages, but thats not the servers fault.
I live in Canada now and we do have a tipping culture here, but luckily we get a higher base wage. The only annoying thing is when someone doesn't tip, 5% of that sale gets "tipped out" so it can come out of my pocket to give to the house, which tips out the kitchen/bartender etc.

Always tip when in USA but I don’t believe in % of total bill especially on Disney where food prices are extortionate. As a couple we normally tip at least $10/15 whether the meal has cost $40 or $90. As we have now retired we are on a very tight budget.

I thought " ask the server what happens with tips" was really good advice if you're not sure
And the part about poor black workers living on tips only was shocking |

Think there was a game changer in the last 18 months when the minimum wage was changed for most CMs to $15ph. I believe the only ones not affected were the waiters (but don’t quote me on it) who did not have that amount of increase because of the amount of tips they had the opportunity to earn.

I think people would be surprised about what happens, I work at the weekends here in a restaurant. I have to pay a fixed % of every bill to the kitchen, bar and runners but so many people in the past year or so simply don't tip I can easily pay our more than I earn. I know most other restaurants have similar policies. I know the policies aren't really enforceable here but you do feel obliged to pay it especially to the teenage runners.

Does anybody know how Disney shares out the tips?
