Split Stay Get Away - Day 5: "It was so fun absolute fun"
The Index
Tuesday 29th May 2018 Today was a day for getting wet, and not all of it rain! The day started later than previous days - about 8am - but still with me bringing coffee (and pastries) back to the room. Jo and I were ready by the time Isabella woke at about 9:30am, and while she ate her pastry (Jo and I had already had ours) I set off to get more coffee, passing the builders hard at work on building 6. Tucking in Raring to go This morning we were off to Animal Kingdom. We had Expedition Everest, Flight of Passage, and Kali River Rapids FastPassed - all of them after 10:30am, hence the laid back start to the day. By 10:30am we were driving to Animal Kingdom, 20 minutes later we were parked up, a looong way from the entrance in Yeti 56! It was a hot one again, and the park was obviously busy, as demonstrated by the trams; we couldn’t get on the first one so we had to wait. Usually we would walk but we were so far away, and it was so hot, we decided to wait. Also, we could see the next tram literally waiting to take the place of the full one, so all in all, it seemed like a good idea to wait. A few minutes later and we were on our way to the park entrance. Busy monorail Busy Animal Kingdom Getting into the park just after 11am, we got ourselves some iced waters from a cart (remember: it was hot!) and then headed to Expedition Everest for our first FastPass of the day. Yes, it is just water! The FastPass queue was as long as the queues on the real Everest! Apparently it had gone down earlier causing the long line. However a CM insisted it would only take 10-15 minutes to get on the ride, so we joined the line. Expedition Everest FastPass line Everest! Respect! Stewart: River Guide of the Month; Isabella - fan of the Yeti tea Thankfully that CM was right and 15 minutes later Isabella was sitting next to me, screaming her head off as we rode Expedition Everest - she loves that ride! After Everest our next destination was Pandora and Flight of Passage. Yes, Pandora was crowded; yes, the FastPass queueing system for Flight of Passage is tedious after you’ve done it once; yes, the pre-ride show is, um, annoying; and yes, it’s still a brilliant ride! Everest ride photo Flight of Passage - Wait time: 150 minutes Usually we follow up Flight of Passage with a visit to Satu’li Canteen - it always seems to be THAT time of day. However, today we were breaking tradition and going for lunch at Restaurantosaurus - a place we only ate at for the first time a few trips ago, enjoyed it (twice), but then never went back because Satu’li Canteen opened. Just like Satu’li Canteen, mobile ordering is now a thing for Restaurantosaurus, so we lingered in the Windtraders gift shop while Jo set our order up on the MyDisneyExperience app, then we walked over to DinoLand USA. Lunch order time Donald’s Dino-Bash had kicked off in DinoLand - seemingly a collection of Donald’s friends and relatives out celebrating the fact that he has realised he, as a bird, is related to Dinosaurs - we saw Scrooge McDuck and Launchpad McQuack out and about but didn’t meet any of them. Donald’s Dino-Bash Time to eat. Jo put our order through as we got to Restaurantosaurus, and after a short wait it was ready to pick up. Inside it was very busy. We picked up our food, and after some wandering around - cursing the people with no food who were hogging tables, or the couples sitting at 4 seater tables - we found ourselves a decent table in the corner. Both Jo and I had gone for the 1/3 lb Angus Bacon Cheeseburger, and Isabella had opted for the 4 Chicken Breast Nuggets, complete with bucket & spade (for Paleontological digs!). We took advantage of the toppings bar, and the ability to order alcohol on the dining plan - I had Bud Light, Jo had a Margarita. Restaurantosaurus Burger Chicken Breast Nuggets with bucket & spade After our enjoyable and filling lunch we thought we’d take a stroll through the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Isabella had her Wilderness Explorer field guide with her - it already had the Pandora badges from our last visit and we thought she would like to try and add some badges to it. She got the Bat Badge but then she didn’t want to do any more. I think a combination of the heat and tiredness had got the better of her this afternoon - now would be a good time to cool down! Maharajah Jungle Trek Bat Badge Sleeping tiger So after we finished our trek (which was actually fairly disappointing as we didn’t get to see the tiger cubs - probably the main reason for doing the trek in the first place), we headed to Kali River Rapids for our last FastPass at Animal Kingdom. Jo and I haven’t done this ride for years - in fact I’m not sure I’ve ever done it more than once - and I did not remember it all. It’s a shame I had to stash my phone in the locker (I won’t bother next time) as I’d liked to have got some photos of the queuing area. Storage lockers for Kali Kali River Rapids was something of a disappointment. When we went on Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges at Islands of Adventure with HappyHaunt1000 and Tarnabanana83 a couple of years ago, we had great fun AND got absolutely soaked. Kali River Rapids was definitely not that ride! Dry and underwhelmed, we decided to call it a day at Animal Kingdom. The time was about 2:15pm as we headed for the exit. We had a quick stop for a PhotoPass shot in front of the tree and then we were done. Tree of Life PhotoPass As we got outside the park, there was a tram literally waiting for us, so we jumped on it. The drive back to Port Orleans French Quarter was straightforward. We headed straight up to the room to get changed for the pool. Oh yes, we were finally going to spend some time at the pool - this being our last day at Port Orleans French Quarter it was our last chance, and Isabella was very excited. The maid was along our landing, so we got changed quickly and walked over to the Doubloon Lagoon pool area. Jo found a couple of recliners, and I took Isabella into the pool. She’s still not learned to swim, so I got her to practice a bit before she decided she wanted to go on the 51-foot-long snaking sea serpent slide - it’s called ‘Scales’. After I’d taken her to the top of the slide, she wanted me to wait for her at the bottom. A woman with a couple of kids offered to make sure she went down the slide ok, which was very kind of her. I waited at the bottom of the slide, and soon Isabella came sliding into view - she absolutely loved it, and immediately wanted to go again. She must’ve been up and down that slide 9 or 10 times, even when the inevitable rain storm came. While I sheltered in the water, and Isabella was oblivious as she came splashing into the pool, poor Jo was trying to shelter under a couple of towels - there was no cover around the pool! After about 45 minutes at the pool, we packed up and popped into Sassagoula Floatworks for a cold drink. Before heading back to the room we popped to the lobby and used our gift card to pay off some of the room charges (from the parks). We had a browse in the shop (Jackson Square Gifts & Desires), bought some water for the room, got ourselves another cold drink from Sassagoula Floatworks, then finally made our way back to the room - fortunately the rain had eased off by this point. Ready, waiting, and reading #CarSelfie Tonight’s dinner reservation was at ‘Ohana, so we got ready and by 5pm we were on our way to the Polynesian Village Resort. As we pulled into the car park the rain started again - it was back with a vengeance! After waiting for a few minutes, it didn’t look like it was going to ease up anytime soon, so I dropped Jo and Isabella at the entrance to the main lobby, then spent 5 minutes driving round the car park trying to find a closer parking space to the one we’d originally pulled into - I’m sure you won’t be surprised to learn that I didn’t, and I actually ended up in exactly the same spot about 5 minutes from the entrance to the lobby. I sat the rain out for a bit, but time was getting on and I wanted to eat tonight! When I thought the rain had eased a little I made a dash for it. Rain! In the meantime Jo and Isabella had been browsing the Moana Mercantile shop where Isabella had bought some presents for her friends. They were sporting a lei each, which they’d been given when they entered the lobby by the ‘Ohana ukulele lady - not sure what she was doing down there! Isabella and Oswald wore their leis We immediately headed to ‘Ohana to check in, and fortunately only had a short wait until we were shown to our seat - it was a great seat, right next to the window with a brilliant view of Magic Kingdom across the Seven Seas Lagoon. Once seated we wasted no time in tucking into the pineapple bread. Our server arrived and we ordered some drinks - Backscratcher for Jo (Bacardi Superior Rum, Myers's Original Dark Rum, and Passion Fruit Juice topped with Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and a Bamboo Backscratcher), Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale (my absolute favourite!), and some kind of Strawberry Smoothie (at the server’s suggestion, it wasn’t on the menu) for Isabella. 'Pineapple bread Brilliant view Backsratcher Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale Strawberry smoothie It wasn’t long until the food began to arrive to accompany the salad that had already been delivered. First up were the noodles, stir-fried vegetables, pork dumplings, and chicken wings. It was all delicious, but we left some room for the main courses - we’ve done this before! As usual in ‘Ohana there was plenty going on. There was a man on the ukulele tonight and in charge organising the coconut race. Isabella got up and took part but she doesn’t like losing, and started to whinge about not finishing first. I told her it’s just fun and that she doesn’t always have to win - she is allowed to just enjoy herself! Salad Noodles etc. The mains - the skewers - came soon after and they were all amazing. In the past, we’ve found ‘Ohana to be a bit hit and miss, but tonight everything was spot on, and because we’d been conservative with the noodles etc. (not easy, I can tell you!), we had plenty of room for a couple of rounds of all three skewers - sweet-n-sour chicken, Szechuan sirloin steak and spicy grilled peel-n-eat shrimp. Once we’d had our fill, we moved onto the dessert. As usual it was the bread pudding, and it was as good as ever! Isabella had a dessert all to herself too: from the photo it appears to be some kind of rice krispie treat topped with Mickey sprinkles - I didn’t make a note of exactly what it was. Skewers Peeling shrimp for the first time Bread pudding Rice krispie treat The time was just gone 7pm and we were done. The night was still young… ish, and we had plans for the rest of the evening. As we’d had a late start to the day we decided that a visit to Magic Kingdom was in order. We headed to the monorail, got through bag check quickly, and jumped on the monorail that arrived at the same time we did. #MonorailSelfie Ten minutes later we were in Magic Kingdom. The castle was open as we reached the end of Main Street so we walked through (usually something we only get to do do first thing in the morning) on our way to meet Rapunzel and Tiana at the Princess Fairytale Hall - Jo had managed to procure FastPasses earlier this afternoon. The sword in the stone had no queue as we passed it, so Isabella had a go - alas she was no king (or queen) of England, not even a phoney one… Going through the castle NOT the King of England

Moving on to Princess Fairytale Hall, we headed in to meet Rapunzel and Tiana. Both always turn out be good character meets, and Isabella enjoyed getting photos, autographs and selfies with them both.
After a little ride on it’s a small world - there was no queue - it was time to call it a night and make our way back to the Poly to pick up the car. Isabella and Jo queue selfie Meeting Tiana Meeting Rapunzel On the way out of Magic Kingdom we popped into the Curtain Call Collectables shop where Isabella bought herself some tsum tsums: Goofy, Mickey, Donald and Pluto as the Dapper Dans; and Pete as a bellboy from the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Castle at dusk Curtain Call Dapper Dan tsum tsums Hollywood Tower Hotel bellboy Pete The monorail back was slow, it took about 15 minutes. We picked up the car and made the drive back to POFQ. After Isabella had bathed and gone to bed, I went off to grab a couple of coffees (decaf) and Jo and I were in bed surprisingly early - 10pm - considering the late start. And that’s another day done. Hope you enjoyed it, and thanks for reading!

Great day, I love Isabella’s outfits! Ohana looked great, I’m glad I’m not the only one who has found it hit or miss! I still love it though, especially that bread pudding. Look forward to reading more.

Great day, loads packed in!
Love the car selfie- nearly as much as the pic of the bread The Tsums! Is that a new thing? They never seemed to really sell them at Disney bizarrely even though the Disney Store were crammed with them! Also where is the Curtain Call shop? Is it where the Town Square Theatre is ? I recall a shop there even though it's not on their map. But I don't remember Tsums. Exciting!

Even though you managed to fit in 2 parks and dinner at a different resort it sounds like quite a relaxing day! The selfie photos with the princesses are lovely!

We did that trek to see the tiger on a hot day as well but it was well worth it as they were all out and about and the cubs were being quite lively. It was definitely a trip highlight!
That Ohana food looks delicious, well done for pacing yourselves, not sure I could have managed that with those noodles!
