The Museum of the Rockies is well worth a visit when you're in Bozeman.
Don't miss the view of Grand Prismatic Spring in YNP from the new viewing platform, & make time to stroll the boardwalks near Old Faithful & also to wait for some of the geyser eruptions.
Do you have a reason for going to Idaho Falls? If you are going to be west of the Tetons, Mesa Falls are quite nice but not worth going out of your way for. I'd suggest instead to drive south from Yellowstone into Grand Teton NP & spend some time there (don't miss sunset at Ox Bow Bend!). The scenery is beautiful & there are some lovely lake-side walks in GTNP.
Jackson has a rodeo in the summer. Also take a look at some of the photographic galleries in Jackson. The pictures are amazing, especially in Mangelsen's.
On the way from Jackson back towards Denver, the National Oregon/California Trail Centre in Montpelier was an interesting stop. Fossil Butte National Monument & Dinosaur NM are both worth a visit, especially if you're interested in fossils; & the scenery was lovely in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area to the west of the Green River along WY-530.
For some shopping, we stopped at the Outlets at Silverthorne (although I'm sure there must be better ones in Denver!) just off I-70 not far from Vail.
Finally, a visit to the Rocky Mountain NP is highly recommended, with lovely walks, plenty of wildlife to see, & stunning scenery.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the suggestions. Will take a closer look.

I am currently trying to plan an American Road trip for next year, did California last year and loved it, but struggling to decide where to head to next. Yellowstone is somewhere I really fancy, can any of you share your road trip plans?

Apologies if you already know this - but it can be very cold in August!
We were shocked to find our car windscreen frozen in the mornings. It does vary tho & gets warmer during the day. Also, we were last there 3 years ago & the rangers were pulling over speeding drivers. I don’t know the outcome.
It’s a wonderful place. We loved the scenery, as much as the wildlife!
Jackson Hole aka ‘we use antlers in all of our decorating’ has a weekly rodeo, which is fun.

We’ve literally just got back from Yellowstone/grand tetons. Absolutely make time for grand Teton if you can, it was fab and every bit as lovely as Yellowstone itself
