Young Driver
DS is 22 and last year drove across US doing Route 66, so is keen and experienced driving over there. Insurance companies unfortunately don't seem to see it that way and the costs of adding him to car rental insurance are staggering! Is anyone aware of a cheap way of adding him, should myself and DW fancy a cheeky wine with a meal out and he could drive back?

U S Rent a car, link at top of this section and U S Car hire used to have good young driver packages both my boys found them better than paying the normal supplements. Maybe try whoever he used for Route66?
If not probably be cheaper to use Uber if you want a drink |

Sixt is the best to hire with for a young driver. Otherwise it's abut $25 a day I think.
I'd agree with above though, Uber will be cheaper! |

We hired through uscarhire.com and had the young drivers package
it includes Young Driver Package Price includes a tank of fuel and 3 drivers aged 21+ (4 drivers in total) and all required insurances. For a Ford Edge is roughly £766 for 2 weeks in September.

Andy of DFCH also does the under 25 option, so most will. I used him a couple of years back.
A couple of points. The under 25 must be the lead driver. AVIS does not allow under 25 as additional drivers so cannot be added later if an after thought to add them. |
