So for the OP

I don’t know your dates but sat to sat in March 8th to 22nd Premium has a cash fare of 1075

Reward flight is 95k plus £355 tax.

Using the standard 1p per mile that’s £1300 for a flight that you could pay £1075.

To answer about Amex points

If using the example above you were using standard earned avios (travel, shopping portal etc) that would be giving you a redemption of 0.82p.

With Amex being so versatile I find it best to wait and not use the points until a better offer is available, I’ve had redemptions with AA at 2p per point, also had Hilton points stays over that with a special offer.

I’m not saying it’s not always a bad thing but I wouldn’t ever just send to BA, I hold them and make sure always getting the best value.

I wouldn’t be transferring any hard earned Amex points to get 0.82p for them.

Good calculation but you haven't factored a companion voucher.

Sorry didn’t gather from the initial info the OP had one?

Plus you’re not going to get one for every flight I guess? Then again I don’t know how much people spend.

I don’t use them as I don’t use the BA Amex, I use the plat charge card so collect from that.

I’m not fussed about being tied to a carrier.

But yes they would make the reward flights very much more appealing if you had one.

My point was that transferring to BA every time is no always the best option and to make sure you always check cash options, you will then earn even more points on the flights (ba and Amex) for a time when you can get better use.

Sadly I don't have a BA card as not UK based. Interesting to note about AMEX though but can't see how to use the points on them otherwise it's a Belgian Amex card and they are just sitting there. We use it for everything here so points build fast I was wondering about upgrading the card but it's 600€ per year for plat and I just don't see the use for double points as I can't really use them here.

Fully understand that, if the points are gathering dust and won’t be used then 355 in tax’s is a cheap ticket and I would be using them.
