I've packed my repellents. I even spray the bed linen and my legs before I get into bed at nights... just in case!

In the dry season you may be lucky. It’s normally waiting for fireworks that we get bitten

Just returned from Orlando at the end of November and YES insects are still biting. I received over 150+ bites while there which made me ill.
I had used an UK brand of insect repellent with 50% Deet. Also, I had taken daily antihistamines as I have very bad reactions to bites. This regime normally works well for me and I only receive a few bites. However, it didn't work on this occasion. I had to visit an Urgent care Clinic to see a Dr. and had to have an injection of steroids and a follow-up steroid course too plus take two different types of painkillers. So I would suggest you buy your repellent in Florida as they have stronger/more deet (98%) contents than ours in the UK. |

150 bites! Oh my word you poor thing. That would be my holiday written off - in fact ten percent of that would ruin my holiday. I’m glad I asked as I will take way more precautions now. Good idea to start antihistamines before hand too - l will start mine tomorrow.

Picardin is said to be as effective as Deet but without the smell or side effects. I was bitten in Florida but it was in August. It led to me needing oral and intramuscular antibiotics. I was never bitten when using a picaridin based repellent.

From our Nov to May experience, admittedly on the SW Gulf Coast, we carry mossie/no-seeum protection against the bitey beggers, particularly when we head to the piers with barely no wind. We keep a couple of spray cans in the motor.

Never get any at Easter time but got eaten alive in the summer but that was on the coast. Around Orlando I don't seem to get bitten.
