Virgin Bid to Upgrade

I have searched for this but it isn't very clear, if I put a bid in for an upgrade now , but don't fly to May, when will my bid be accepted or rejected?

Many thanks!

I’ve never done this, but I think you don’t find out until a few days before your flight x

You find out 48 hrs before your flight. I bid in May and we were lucky enough to get the upgrade.

Can you explain exactly what the bidding is all about please? I’m a bit confused about it.

You place a bid of your choice to try and get an upgrade to upperclass
there is a minimum bid and a maximum bid so you choose what you are prepared to pay for the upgrade and if there are any upperclass seats left 48 hours before the flight departs the ones with the highest bids get the upgrade for the price they have bid, if there are no seats left or you are out bid you do not get charged and keep the seat you already have.

The bid is only for 1 sector so if you want to upgrade round trip you need to bid on each sector and the bid is per person so if there are 2 people on the booking and you bid say £550 if you are successful you would pay £1100 in total for a one way upgrade'

Thank you for the information. I’ll have a closer look at my flights, though I doubt I’ll be able afford it. Won’t hurt to look, though 😊

What is the average bid that people would pay?

If you look at the bid page there is a sliding scale from no bid to xxx.

You need to decide on a price you would be prepared to pay for an upgrade as if successful money is taken.

Everyone is different and some are only prepared to may £50 for PE some £250

Just booked virgin economy flights and I also have some questions about bidding for an upgrade to PE.

Do virgin accept their bids for upgrades when they have PE seats empty or only when they’ve overbooked economy and need to upgrade people? I’ve seen mixed things said online. (This is a confusing sentence, I mean do virgin chose winning bids when they have empty PE seats or when economy is overbooked? Or both I suppose?)

Mostly interested in anyone who has been upgraded- was it a busy flight or a quiet flight?

We’ve just booked for September, and I know we are a while off currently but the flight is currently very empty, only the bubble was booked up, and about ten downstairs in economy and a few PE seats taken. I haven’t flown in September so not sure how busy it gets either. Just want to know how much that effects bidding.

Still not sure if I’d want to anyway, maybe for a small amount just to see, but the upgrade cost quoted to us was far too much for us. I’d much rather have that money as spending money personally. Thanks!

if you place a bid and are successful you can't say no as it is done very last minute.

I would think that it is when the majority of people have checked in and they have PE seats left - they want as much money as possible (not unreasonably)

I was offered an upgrade from delight to PE outbound for £535 which is more than the seat return! It has come down to £235 now but still too high for me.
