Reasonable car hire quote TUI for 2022

We have been looking round for quotes for May 22 for 2 weeks. Had quotes most coming out at about £1800 for a 7 seater suv collecting at Melbourne. Decided to contact TUI as that is who we have booked the holiday through and their quote is £1260. Loads more than we have paid in the past but in the current climate we are happy.

Mmm, that's expensive.

In a 2 minute search I have found a 7 seater with Virgin Atlantic as a stand alone car hire fully insured for £1091

Included.

Unlimited Mileage
Collision Damage Waiver CDW
$1 million Liability Cover EP
Third Party Liability (state min)
Zero excess in event of damage/accident
Airport User Fee
Pre payable State/Local Taxes
Pre payable State/Local Surcharges
One additional driver
24/7 Breakdown/Accident Assistance (free Alamo call out in the event of car breakdown)

I would be hunting around a bit before jumping in too quickly. I reckon in under an hour I could find it for nearer £800 and probably less.

Can't add anything to Tom's advice but please be very cautious about any quote you get from Tui and check that it includes both CDW (with no excess) and $1m SLI.

Far too many instances on here over the years of their basic quotes excluding CDW and only having the state minimum $25k SLI.

Hi Tom,
Let me know if you do find it any cheaper.
That Virgin quote of £1091 is by far the lowest that I could find for my dates in July.
Wasn't even listed the last time I checked with Andy.

Hi. Also got a good quote from virgin for my dates and I’m tempted to book. The rental includes “third party extended protection” up to 1 million. Can someone confirm if this is the SLI that is required. Thanks

Third party extended protection = supplemental liability insurance = liability insurance supplement = extended protection.

I have gone with the £1,091 quote with Virgin as it was the cheapest I found in my initial search. Just wanted to get something locked in as unsure which way car hire prices might go. My understanding is that the Virgin car hire can be cancelled for free if a better deal comes along. Please correct me if I am wrong. By the way Tom if you do have an £800 quote please let me know

Mr Tom,
You wouldn’t happen to have the link to that website?
I’ve just went round in circles on the Virgin website.
I remember booking with Virgin a few yrs ago and the websites url wasn’t easy to find.

I found the opposite!
It’s a tab across the top of the virgin holidays website.

That's with Virgin Holidays. I wont book with them as they are slow with the booking confirmation compared to Virgin Atlantic. Even though a VA booking is managed by VH!
