Breakfast at your hotel (if on a dining plan) is the best way to start the day. Get in early and fill up on as much as you can/want. And you can still get to the park of your choice for opening.
As for restaurants, after our last visit I would have to say our favourite was Hunter's Grill at Sequoia Lodge - all you can eat buffet and exceptional food.
As Gill mentioned, park restaurants close early (too early in my opinion) so are only good for lunch. But that never suits us as we prefer to fill our bellies at breakfast, snack for lunch and eat dinner late(ish), around 19:30/20:00.
Depending on budget, we really liked the Princess Breakfast at Auberge (not sure if available currently). The buffet at Billy Bob's was ok, food was very good we just found seating a bit too tight and it felt overcrowded.
Annette's Diner is also a good option, similar to Planet Hollywood essentially, but better.
We always avoid Cafe Mickey (fixed menu is too limited), Rainforest - too expensive, Planet Hollywood - there are better options.

For quick service options we like Earl Of Sandwich and Five Guys, avoid McD's as we have too many of them at home...!

I’ve been binge watching Sam and found her vlogs so useful, also Pixiedust( not really dining) and a Clairytale.

We are staying at Newport Bay in May, I think we would like the breakfast but we like to be out in the parks at opening so just a bit worried in case it takes too much time up.
We have only stayed there once and didn't have a dining plan, so only paid for breakfast on the last day as we could take our time - we weren't going into the parks that day.

However, if we have a dining plan we do usually hit breakfast. We get there just before 7am to avoid the queue, and we take about half an hour, then stroll over to the park to be in plenty of time for EMT.

Frankly there is so little to do in the evenings we're usually in bed well before 10pm and we're two adults! So getting up at 6am is not an issue.

Wow, so it is! They had better have seriously upped their game then. The Chuck Wagon is OK but certainly wasn't any better than the Cantina at Santa Fe.

According to the menus Chuck Wagon is now 38 Euros which is more than the far superior Hunter's Grill at Sequoia Lodge (currently closed).

That's a bit sneaky. OK, so Cheyenne is much nicer than Santa Fe, but it's definitely a value level hotel. Surprised that you can't eat on a Standard plan at their buffet.

Mysteriously, La Grange at Billy Bob's menu seems to be a lacking a price altogether. Hmmm. I think they have taken the opportunity of the closure to whack the prices up!

I'm with you on that one Gill...!

Thats why we eat later, then a quick cocktail or beer in the bar ond off to bed... Or as per last year (with DD8) took our drinks to the room.

We like to visit when the park is open late, that way we can have a break in the day and spend the evening in the park.

We’re old fogeys so quite happy to go in winter when it’s cheap, and spend the evening over a relaxing meal!

Also when there’s a firework show, I hate having to wait till 11pm when it gets dark in the summer.

Also there are "quick service" restaurants like the Lucky Nugget and Fuente de Oro (which has starting serving food again) which are big enough meals to have a lighter main meal for the day.

Fuente del Oro is now a bar with snacks apparently.

Counter service is not quick - it is glacially slow service and the food is mostly so-so and lukewarm. There are a couple of exceptions but the counter service options are not great.

Fuente Del Oro changed back, I think today, to a restaurant. They've kept some of the items from the "bar" menu, and there's burritos, etc. back on now. X
