I have jumped over here after you commented on my post.
We asked in store at Thomas Cook last week about flight prices and were told that the price online with Thomas Cook airlines is the best price that instore can do. We were told that they could do dicounts on other parts of holidays. When we booked today we definitely saved by getting free seat reservations included as part of out tailored package. I would say if you want to try to get a discount from a travel agent the more elements that you include the more of a discount across the board you may be able to get. I would also say that we had been looking at prices for flying direct from newcastle and manchester which were also available for next year. By the time we had added on the extra fuel costs and an overnight stay the night before flying the costs difference between the flights form Glasgow and the flights from Manchester were not worth the extra hassle. We are a family a family of three so I can see if you are a bigger family the balance toward money saved would be better. |

OP, I get that you're looking for direct, however I'd encourage you to have a look at slightly indirect with Aer Lingus from Glasgow via Dublin. We did that last time we went and it worked out a good bit cheaper than direct with the added advantage of pre clearance in Dublin, which can take a long time off your wait in immigration. About 60 passengers were going on to the US from our Glasgow to Dublin flight. We were met at the gate by a member of staff and escorted straight to the pre clearance area then directed straight to boarding for our Orlando flight. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We've flown direct from Glasgow for the past 3 years. Twice with Virgin and this year is TC.
Past 2 years we had BA indirect booked and then ended up cancelling to go direct. Past 2 years have been a package but this year is DIY with a villa. Think we're done with the whole hotel setup. Having 2 beds in the same room as the kids for 2 weeks had started to grate a bit. Package prices have been between £2300 - £2600 for a family of 4. 2A+2C. That's flights, car and offsite hotel. (Rosen Pointe first year and Rosen Shingle Creek last year) This year we booked a fly drive with BA for £1900 but then found direct TC flights for £1450. We cancelled BA and booked car hire separate which came out at just over £2100 which includes the loss of deposit paid to BA. We generally fly the last week in June, a few days before the schools break up. We didn't book a package this year as the prices have shot up. Think the lowest we seen anything was around the £3k mark and that was staying somewhere like the Red Lion hotel on the 192. Virgin seem to have increased prices quite a bit this year. Our worry is that TUI and TC follow suit next year. My advice would be to do your homework. Figure out where you want to stay and then plan your flights around that. I've found its cheaper to book flights nearer the time to fit in with your accommodation or wait until 2-3 months before you leave to book a package. TUI and TC prices seem to drop around this time. Virgin are staying steadily high though. Hopefully this helps you out! |

Yeah that's a good price for sure albeit having to take kids out of school early. For example flying out 21st June direct for two weeks this year is currently £1700 for four people It really jumps after that. I took kids out three days early last year but that's out now due to dd with exams. Outside school holidays is dearer
