Historic flight prices as a guide to 2019
Anyone know of a resource for this, and if so are they reliable as a guide to next year? In 2015 and 2017 we went around the 18th May for 2 weeks, gave a good compromise of decent prices and only missing 1 week of school. Thinking of 2019 and am looking at same time of year, but would consider earlier in May and missing 2 weeks, or possibly June, or August.
I know that as a rule of thumb the earlier you buy the better it can often be but as you cant get prices until 12 months ish before its hard to know. I can look at 2018 but how realistic are prices 4 weeks ahead compared to the same time next year? |

You have hit the nail on the head looking at prices for flights is only likely to be a decent guide if you are looking at it not only for the time you want to go but also at the same time you would book it.
Booking flights out further does not mean it is always the cheapest skyscanner has a guide on this somewhere and I think it recommends booking Florida flights 26 weeks out. We booked for last year in the Xmas sale at BA and this showed a huge reduction from booking say in November |

Thanks will take a look at the Skyscanner site - while i want to get a good price, am not too bothered about waiting until the optimum time to book, just to know what pricing is likely to be.
For example, flights for May19 are released in June18, at £1800 for us 4. I am tempted to go in August19 though so wait till Sept18 but prices then are £2500 so decide to book for May but the price then has changed to £2200. Had I known the Aug price would be so much I would not have waited. |
