I’m in need of a new one as well as my Morphy Richards sear and stew has the same issue - the coating is in a bad way so I’m currently using liners but would prefer a new one.

Will follow along for suggestions!

The best one I had was a Breville but I also dropped the lid
My husband surprised me with a huge crockpot from Argos , it’s heavy and had no on and off light so I am constantly checking to see if it’s on , I also have the smallest crockpot and again no on off light.
I am not bothered about all the bells and whistles and usually find the Argos cook works range pretty reliable.

I’ve had them for years now. They only have two heat setting, high and low but they are fab. I think they only cost £12 each and I got 2 so that when we have guests I can do two different curries. I don’t think I would go back to a more expensive one.
I have that Asda one as well. Use liners in it so never have to wash the pot.

Well hubby ordered me a Morphy Richards with the timer. Pity because having read about the coating coming off I probably wouldn’t have ordered it myself. It arrived last night and it is sooo much lighter than the crockpot so already I’m in favour. Plus it fits nicely in the space. I’m a sucker for bells and whistles but I’m having trouble trying to work out how to use the timer. I’m definitely going to get some liners as I’ve never used them before - only roasting bags but they lifted the lid off the old one. Thanks everyone for commenting ☺️

if i were to buy a slow cooker today, i'd get one of the instant pot/ninja multi cookers that do pressure cooking and stuff as well. i barely used my old one which died a few years ago, but as i'm using my pressure cooker more and more, if/when it's time to upgrade, i'll get one that can do it all...

Ive got the Ninja multi cooker. The slow cooker part is not a patch on my cheap Asda slow cooker. If you are buying one for this use then I honestly would not bother and keep separate appliances.

We have one in Florida, It’s ceramic. Had it for years and so easy to clean. We use It all the time. I don’t have one In the UK as we have an Aga which the bottom oven works the same as a slow cooker.

good to know!

i've become a massive fan of the pressure cooker recently, its perfect for cheap cuts of meat in stews/curries/etc. personally i'd much rather throw things in there and cook for 60-90 minutes rather than slow cooking all day long. when ribeye hit £40+/kilo, i switched to whatever cheap cuts i could get my hands on, especially bone-in stuff...

pressure cookers got a bad reputation due to historically terrible devices exploding and lodging themselves in the ceiling, but a modern electric one doesnt have those issues

(see my cooking thread for some recent recipes, including goat bourginon and a one pot japanese beef curry for 15 people in a static caravan in wales!)

I have a duraceramic from crock pot. It has a metal pot which is great for browning off meat before cooking, or putting on the stove to thicken the sauce at the end. The pot has lasted over 5 years without any damage to the surface (has the morphy richards sear and stew before and the coating started to go after 1 year)

I've also got a Ninja - only used the slow cooker function once - never again! Think we ended up with a takeaway that night!

If I want to slow cook I use a proper slow cooker, so totally agree with you!
