I’ve never read any LJ Ross books but after recommendations on here I’ve downloaded the first DCI Ryan book Holy island, it’s available on kindle unlimited.
Have any of you read the latest J D Robb book, Passions in Death? I love the series and really look forward to reading the books as they are published but I was really disappointed with this one, it almost felt as if somebody else had written it, I didn’t feel it was anywhere near her normal standard of writing, I’d be interested to hear what anybody thought. |

I've just read 'Yellowface' by R.F.Kuang, and thought it very dull. The characters are all unlikable and the story goes nowhere! I would not recommend.

Yeah I wasn’t keen on it, I much preferred Babel by that author.

Sort of book club related.
Amazon just announced their first colour ereader, the kindle coloursoft, for £280! 😱 I hadn't upgraded my Kindle paperwhite since I got it in 2012 as nothing was much of an upgrade. Only thing I was waiting for was colour. I gave in a few months ago & got a kobo libra colour for £200. This seems a bargain now as the coloursoft is just a paperwhite with colour whereas the kobo has page turn buttons, Google drive syncing, being able to get books from wherever you want (I can still load my Kindle books into it) & the biggest difference is I can now use it to borrow library books directly from it! So glad I got the kobo now.

This thread was recommended to me and I’ve been able to add a few books mentioned to my wishlist!
I wanted to share some of my favourite reads of the last few years to return the favour! I joined a couple of reading challenges on Facebook and I’m so glad as it meant I’ve read books outside my usual genres (I have always been a crime/thriller girlie) which I’ve surprisingly really enjoyed! - The Lockwood and Co series by Jonathan Stroud - a set of five books, set in present day London with a spooky difference - ghost hauntings! These were fabulous, aimed at young adults/middle grade but I got so much out of them at 42 lol. - Love Heart Lane - Christie Barlow - a cosy second chance romance, set in Scotland in winter, involving cake. What’s not to love lol! I am hoping to read more of this series. - Legends and Lattes - Travis Baldree - a cosy fantasy romance, a book I’d never have chosen myself but was one of my best reads, all about second chances at living your best life. - You’re not supposed to die tonight - Kalynn Bayron, and How to Survive a Horror Movie - Scarlett Dunmore - both young adult horrors about a ‘final girl’. I really got into the final girl trope with some of my books this year and these were probably the best I read out of them all. - The examiner - Janice Hallet - I really enjoyed The Appeal and The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels, the Examiner was also great! They are a different format (emails/text messages etc) and in the crime/mystery genre. - Touching my father’s soul - Jamling Tenzing Norgay - if I had to choose this would be my favourite read of the year. It is non fiction and about the author following his father’s footsteps in attempting to summit Everest during what turned out to be the deadly 1996 season. A book that really impacted me personally. Other books I’d recommend (I won’t describe as my post is already ridiculously long!) - Never Lie - Freida McFadden - The quiet at the end of the world - Lauren James - The Trial - Rob Rinder - I will find you - Harlen Coben - Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow - Gabrielle Zelvin - Three Hours - Rosamund Lupton - You and me on vacation - Emily Henry - Alone with you in the Ether - Olivie Blake - Kika and me - Amit Patel - Day one - Abigail Dean - Safe at Home - Lauren North - The list of suspicious things - Jennie Godfrey - The final act of Juliette Willoughby - Ellery Lloyd - Lucy Foley - The Guest List - Lisa Jewell - None of this is true |

Someone from my book club just brought me the Seven Sisters series. I'm looking forward to reading them.
