We made it! Hotel room is not ready so have left everything with bell services and just popped over to the Starbucks across the road as we were in need of coffee.

Travel day coming up whilst I have my latte.

Travel Day

The flight to Haneda was scheduled for 9:05am departure so it was an early start but we got through check in and security fairly easily and quickly. We had some breakfast items at the BA Galleries lounge, I think Virgin lounges tend to beat BA on food.

We were called for boarding on time but it was buses to a hard stand and my word they cram as many people as is physically possible on each of those buses. We departed about an hour late, the Captain kept referring to some “issues” but didn’t say what. We were able to send our travelling pugs up to the cockpit to lend a hand but they decided to join us for pre departure champagne instead.

The lunch service started around 11am but it was possibly nearer to 12pm by the time we got ours. Nev picked the butternut squash soup, chicken meatballs and sticky toffee pudding. He is not saying much about it beyond it was ok.

I went for the smoked salmon, a cheese filled creamy pasta dish and a panna cotta dessert. I thought the starter was nice, the main was very nice and the dessert was excellent.

Nev had a great flight, after lunch he must have slept for six or seven solid hours. He was also in the aisle seat and he fell asleep with one of the pugs resting on his chest. I thought it looked quite amusing.

On the other hand, I stayed awake for most of the earlier part of the flight and only got an hour or two towards the end. I had been planning to get online and book the Pokémon Cafe for tomorrow (arrival day that is), as I have discovered that it is often available the day before for booking. However there was no wifi on BA today - they said it hadn’t been fitted on this craft!

The second food service was breakfast as we were into the next day in Japan although still travel day for us. The “starter” course was the same, fruit, yoghurt and a croissant, then Nev had full breakfast and I had an omelette. We both said the breakfast was fine, nothing special.

We got some good views of Mount Fuji as we arrived into Tokyo, although with all those clouds, I am sure it was another disappointing day for anybody trying to see it from ground level.

Prior to travel we had become aware of something for Japan immigration that we assumed was a bit like mobile passport, although it is a website not an app. Anyway we filled it all in and it culminates in a QR code at the end. Well we struggled to understand the purpose of this, it did not expediate our process at all. No special immigration lines for those with it or without it, then there are customs lines for people with a QR code and people with a form. We had the form as well because BA told us we needed it as well as the QR code, the form line was shorter so we went through that. Overall, not sure what it was about.

Anyway overall the arrival process was fine. We decided to take a cab off the rank to our hotel and the cost just going on the clock was Ą11,000 or about Ł55. I think we landed around 8am and were at the hotel by about 9:20am.

Yes can’t really complain about the journey, although I did really feel like it was long, I have got used to much shorter trips these last few post covid years.

We were so pleased to get these views of Mount Fuji and in fact if I don’t get them from the ground during our trip, I will be happy with these.

Glad you’ve arrived safety & love the look of Nev’s toffee pudding 😋😋
Great that the pugs got in the cockpit too, how lucky 🤩
Shame no WiFi on board though, hope you can get the Pokémon cafe anyway
🙏🏻
