Buy now or next year? Question
We need to make a definite decision asap.
We are still looking at SSR but if we buy now would we be able to get 2 weeks at SSR the first two weeks of August? We are tied to those dates give or take a couple of days, so we don’t want to buy then be unable to actually book it. We really don’t want odd days here and there 😬 Obviously if we make an offer this week it will then need to go through the whole process, does anyone know how long resale purchases take? So we might not be booking for a good few weeks. The other option is to swap our original booking at AK to SSR and stay there then buy after that next August but that’s another year gone plus a £6k stay (including DDP) Thanks |

Saratoga is pretty wide open and for August, it should be open until at least February or March.
I booked there for my daughter last summer just a few weeks before. If you are definitely going to buy, then I wouldn't want to pay for a stay next summer. Bear in mind, you will have to pay for Food if you do book via DVC, so figure that into your calculations. |

Thanks so much ☺️
I have done my working out based on owning for 10 years (basically divided the initial costs by 10 and added that to the yearly fee, giving me something to compare booking with DDP) So with my figures next year would cost around £3000 if we buy DVC, compared to the £6k if we book via Disney including the DDP. That gives us £3k, depending on what & where we eat we could definitely spend £3k on food for the 4 of us but we could also spend a lot less if needed. Hopefully that makes sense 🙈🤣 |

We bought a resale contract this summer at Boulder Ridge so as a guide for how long it might take:
Our offer was accepted on 24th May We closed on 23rd July The points were added to our DVC account on 9th August I think for new members it often takes longer for the points to be available for you to use as a new account has to be set up. We're already members so the points just needed to be added to our account. I think they usually advise 4-6 weeks from closing for points to be added by Disney. So it will likely be about 3 months in total from making an offer to booking. SSR is our original home resort, we love it. Availability is usually good due to the sheer size of the resort.

I think you will be fine, usually takes about two-three months from offer to log on and being able to book.
It only starts to get difficult to book at under 7 months. And that’s not until Jan for August. Even then as the inventory at ssr is large you would still be ok. |

Thank you again ☺️ so if we say 3 months to be on the safe side we would probably be only 7 months out. Would we still be able to get 2 weeks in a standard studio? Is that pretty much a safe bet?

There is currently plenty of available for all of March April and May most of which is passed the 7 months cutoff.
Last year I booked in March for a 5 nights in June. |

FT. It's a tough old World so take advantage of those who will struggle to pay their Annual Dues in January.
I would be on the hunt for a Contract mid December onwards. Preferably a loaded one. Then haggle.

If you've definitely made the decision to buy then I'd wait on Mr T's advice, traditionally Dec/Jan is where owners are offloading their contracts because of dues but I'm going to add a caveat Your yearly "calculation" is about the same as renting 2 weeks in august so you need to think about what you could sell it for in 10 years time versus what you could "gain" on your capital & you're not tied to anything IYKWIM
As for your 2 weeks, unfortunately we could all say "100%" but really none of us know, with everyone & their Granny renting points now it's hard to predict SD

I’d start looking now, check the thread on dis board of what people have offered so you have a guide of what contracts are selling for rather than what they are advertised for.
We have just completed (finally, it was a delayed closing) on our CCV contract. People said wait until end of the year, dues etc. In fact the prices have just gone up since we offered. I still get the alert emails and they are all now $145 and up. We paid $115. Oh and this May we were onsite for 3 weeks. 2a2c (although my 11 year eats more than me) We spent about £1800 on food, mixture of on site and off site/ohana’s and 2x trips to Oga’s. Edited at 09:00 PM. |
