Oh Vienna

Considering a trip to Vienna next summer. It appears to be a good city for getting around on foot which we like. Is there a particular area that’s good to stay in? What’s the simplest way to get to and from the airport?

Any tips? Must sees? Interesting places to visit? The trip is for me and DH (early 60’s) and DD(24). We love exploring new cities and love art, museums, churches and nature. We plan to visit the Lipizzaner riding school and the Zoo in the city. But don’t really have any other plans yet. We also like trying traditional foods and street foods, any recommendations for Vienna on what to eat?

All on the list 😀 We’d not seen the Prater but that looks such a fun place to visit so we’re definitely going there. Schönbrunn Palace and St Stephens Cathedral look amazing too. The Sachertorte was one of the first things we thought of when we mentioned Vienna so will definitely be sampling that 😋

Vienna is a great place to visit. Easy to walk around. We loved the Belvedere and the Klimt collection. Spanish riding school is a must. The trams are a great way to get around. The Rathausplatz is in the centre so any hotel within walking distance will be a good place to stay. Go to Demel either for coffee and cake or takeaway a box of delicious Viennese treats. Getting from the airport is really easy too we got the train from the terminal.

We are off to Vienna in 3 weeks, have been before but was almost 30 years ago.
We are staying at Lindner am Belvedere hotel. We plan a few of the things suggested above. We also are planning a day trip to Bratislava, which is less than 90 mins.
We also have booked cafe sacher for coffee and Sachertorte cake .

We plan to visit Christmas markets too, obv not there at the time you plan.

Check when the Spanish Riding School are on holiday if you want to see them perform. There are always a few horses in the stables but the majority go off to the country for a holiday for a few weeks each summer and there are no performances then.

I love Vienna at Christmas and the markets are definitely worth a visit - I've also done Hamburg, Salzburg, Cologne to mention a few but Vienna is one of my favourites.

Hope you have a great time.
