What are your plans for…
What are your plans for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & Boxing Day? 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎅🎅🎅🎅
Christmas eve, my older two children are working all day until 6pm 😫😫😫 my youngest won’t do anything without them so I am stuck for ideas. When the older two come home we will have dominoes and pig out with Christmas treats whilst watching Christmas Carol 🤩 Christmas Day is always at my mums, we go around 1pm after the children have opened their presents and we have all got dressed up fancy. We stay until 5pm then come home and the kids take another look at their presents and eat chocolates Boxing Day is a bit meh 😫 my sister and I always took turns doing a buffet but she doesn’t want to anymore, she isn’t really a family person nor a Christmas person 🙈 My older two are going out around town in the evening for the traditional fancy dress night (not together) so it will be a movie and treats for the rest of us and I will have a baileys 😜 |

Just me and DH this year as it's DD and DSIL turn to be a his parent’s place as we alternate. A peaceful day which I enjoy, after years of having to visit too many relatives on the day as we did in the past. Used to alternate with WDW visits in the last few years but DH isn't up to that now.

DH will probably work for a few hours on Christmas Eve from home. DD will be working until god knows what time. Hopefully everyone will keep their dogs away from the chocolate and mince pies so she can get home at a decent time! We will go out for a couple of drinks when she is home and pick up a take away on the walk home. Christmas morning we visit my parent's grave with flowers before visiting the in laws. Then it's home to Christmas PJ's and a glass of champagne while cooking.

Xmas Eve - We usually go see my husband's family in the evening. My MIL likes to do a "picky tea" for the 3 kids & the grandchildren.
Xmas Day - We tend to stay at home, just the 3 of us. It causes less stress & driving around (like we used to!). It means my son can play with all his new toys. Boxing Day - We see my family for a day of food, board games & general silliness

Christmas Eve is all chip in food preparation. We all peel and chop and I make various stuffings, cook a gammon/ham and possibly cook a turkey crown to eat cold in sandwiches etc.
Dinner is a no fancy affair. Grandkids get ready for bed in Christmas PJ’s and put all their goodies out for Santa and the reindeers. Christmas Day it’s present opening. Then a mixture of playing with the kiddies and cooking the main turkey, and all the veg etc! Mid morning we will open the champagne until lunch time. We all stuff ourselves. Son in law is usually the pudding guy. He sets light to it and we all enjoy that! More playing with the kiddies until it’s their bedtime and then after they are asleep it’s time to pick at more food and drink and play a few games. Faves are pic charades, and a few others whose names escape me! That’s accompanied by more drink and a few chocolates. Boxing Day is usually a collapse day. The odd year we might go to the sea to watch the nutcases engage in the Boxing Day Dip but since the council has made everywhere permit parking only that’s harder to do as parking is a nightmare. We watch any TV that we fancy and generally take it easy. Food is usually just picking whatever you fancy from what’s around!

Christmas Eve:
Both me and my husband are working until 4ish. We will pick up my mum and brother after that, have a takeaway and snacks with a film. Christmas Day: For the last two years we’ve had Christmas Day at the in laws. Husband’s mum and dad, sister, Nan, my mum, my brother and us two. We have Christmas Day with both sides as I couldn’t leave my mum and brother to have Christmas Day just the two of them. Boxing Day: Pjs and games day. The same people as above, back at the in laws in our pjs playing board games, eating far too much and just having a laugh. We always go to the in laws because they have a dog that they won’t leave alone and I have a cat, so I can’t have the dog in my house. It’s a little cosy for eight and a dog, but it works. |

I'll be in Benidorm with my mum, Ds and her hubby, Christmas Eve the only plans we have at present are to find each other a trashy present from one of the Chinese shops in the old town, 10 Euro budget maximum.
Christmas Day we have dinner booked at a nice restaurant, and after that I think we'll just have a wander round the old town, see whats open, we're going to play it by ear really. Boxing Day I havent got a clue what we're doing, again I think we'll just see how we feel, and it'll depend on how hungover we all are probably! |

Our dd will be home from uni and has been able to get Christmas Eve off work but will have to work New Years Eve and Day instead - she works in a pub over at Cambridge where she studies.
So - Christmas Eve - DH working until 5 and DS and DD will probably spend time in their room. No takeaway for us as we’ve just moved house but probably play board games in the evening. Christmas Day - really don’t know at the moment. My parents will come to us again like they always do but mum has dementia and she is very confused and refusing to visit our new home at the mo but I’m sure we will get her there. My sister and her family have been invited again but she keeps coming up with excuses why they can’t. Brother in law says yes, sister says no - her excuse is they have a dog and mum is too draining. When everyone has gone - around 5 ish - we will have snacks and play games. Boxing Day - nothing. Recovering from Boxing Day but we always play games in the evening. DS spends a lot of time in his room as can’t cope with lots of people and doesn’t like eating in front of people - ADHD / sensory issues Christmas, although I love it and as I work in an infant school it’s very exciting, at home it’s a very stressful draining time. DH dad and step mum are no longer with us and he doesn’t really have a relationship with his mum so don’t see her.

My mam has dementia and it's getting worse. Last year she was really scared when we were about to take her back to the care home and was crying as she didn't know where she was. I've suggested to my sister that it's unkind to take her out of the home now but she says she still wants to do it. The thing is she parks mam in the living room and I stay with her. I also think for the first time in about 30 years I won't go up to my sisters. The boys are grown up now, every time I've been up to visit mam my sister has been "away for the day" with her new husband so I don't feel welcome any more and I'd like to spend Christmas day in my own home. Just me, in my pj's, the dog and cats and Christmas tv.
