Where has that come from? I am a clinical pharmacist in a surgery and as of lunchtime there was no MHRA directive on Ranitidine. The products that have been found to contain the risky ingredient are not used here from the same manufacturing plant but the MHRA will be testing UK supplies. I didn't know an announcement had been made.

I read it had been recalled in some stores in the USA and Canada but not over here.

It is not ranitidine per se that is the issue, but batches from the same factory in India that have been contaminated with a potential carcinogen. It sounds as though it’s a belts and braces response and everything has been withdrawn until proven safe.

I thought I’d read it was just Zantac, specifically under that brand name, rather than generic ranitidine? DD certainly had ranitidine by IV last week in hospital.

Please don't panic.
It is much more of a risk to have a stomach unprotected than there is in continuing taking tablets til an alternative gets sorted out. |
