Well done nordictat2girl !
How about adding this link which provides the ACRISS/SIPP codes for the various classes of cars and SUVs that will be in Alamo, National and AVIS carrentingreviews/national-review/ And the following link and text from Wikipedia to explain the origin of ACRISS/SIPP codes car-hire-centre/sipp-codes.html Wikipedia Text: ACRISS Car Classification Code The ACRISS Car Classification Code developed and maintained by ACRISS (the Association of Car Rental Industry Systems Standards) and is designed to enable customers and travel professionals to make an informed choice when booking car rental in Europe, Middle East and Africa. ACRISS Members include Avis, Budget, Alamo, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and National. Others also subscribe to the codes e.g. Atlas Choice and ASAP Ventures. Many other Car Rental companies also utilise this car coding standard. The code has four letters, each of which represents an attribute of the vehicle. First letter: Category Code Category M Mini N Mini Elite E Economy H Economy Elite C Compact D Compact Elite I Intermediate J Intermediate Elite S Standard R Standard Elite F Fullsize G Fullsize Elite P Premium U Premium Elite L Luxury W Luxury Elite O Oversize X Special The Elite categories are designed to enable Car Rental companies to differentiate between standard and high-spec or luxury brand models of similar dimensions. Second letter: Type Code Type B 2-3 Door C 2/4 Door D 4-5 Door W Wagon/Estate V Passenger van L Limousine S Sport T Convertible F SUV J Open-air All Terrain X Special P Pickup (regular cab) Q Pickup (extended cab) Z Special offer Car E Coupe M Monospace R Recreational vehicle H Motorhome Y 2-wheel vehicle N Roadster G Crossover K Commercial van/truck Third letter: Transmission/Drive Code Transmission Drive M Manual Unspecified N Manual 4-wheel C Manual All-wheel A Automatic Unspecified B Automatic 4-wheel Fourth letter: Fuel/Air Conditioning Code Fuel Air Cond. Good list.
It would be useful to split into two - actual car hire companies and third party brokers. I rarely use the latter and generally stick to the actual companies themselves. |

Neither do I nordictat2girl but I always marvel at the brains and resourcefulness of dibbers so I hope they are useful - apologies for hijacking your thread
I found it useful myself to know FFAR is a Full Size SUV rather than being told that SFAR or FGAR was the same Alamo and the others blend cars from the various classes and put those of us not familiar with the ACRISS/SIPP codes at a big disadvantage or else rip us off  It would also be useful to have the links for Alamo SaveTime and OLCI and the equivalent links for the other rental companies - if you are keen to put them up I'll do it later if I get a chance but should be packing as we leave in 2 days |

I went with the ABC's route and actually, it's sometimes cheaper to book with brokers than through the rental company themselves. It's worth it to check ALL options especially if one is on a budget. I'm not forcing anyone to book with a certain website...they can choose which links they want to click on
Louli...I will add the links so if a Dibber wants to find out more about the codes they can As far as Save time etc. That is ually mentioned in your booking when you book with Alamo, Usrentacar etc.

You are right - brokers can be cheaper. But The reason I dont use them is that they work on a very tight margin and can easily go bust - this happened a couple of years ago with one of the biggest ones. People were turning up at the car hire desks after long flights and there was no car for them as it hadn't been paid for by the agents. Getting their money back was a nightmare as insurance companies we're requiring formal letters of insolvency which they wouldn't supply.
This is unlikely to happen with the actual car hire companies themselves. In about the last 15 hires I have done - alamo brits has come put cheapest every single time. So for me, there is a big difference between agents and the actual hire companies. Also I generally don t like agents of any kind. They have to be paid. If their prices are cheaper of the same something must be missing - maybe in service - I don't know. I generally ail only use an agent for car hire ig it is a last minute thing where these is less chance of this happening. |
