We did DCL Norway in May half term 2016, let me know if there's anything you would like to know. It was an amazing trip, stunning natural beauty. We did DIY at all ports. We went on a hike to a waterfall in Geiranger just the 3 of us and it will be one of my best memories!

So pleased he is doing so well xx

Thank you everyone for your replies. I think if we do go it will be on the 25/8 one as I think I will be disappointed now if I don’t go to Geiranger, if we do go for a Norwegian cruise.

I have looked at other companies, but it seems child friendly ones seem to choose standard itineraries and it’s the adults only lines/ships that seem to have the more exciting routes! Such a shame as cruising is becoming more about the ports for us than the boats themselves, but with a couple of sea days thrown in, DCL continues to be the winner for us, even with the high prices.

If you choose a cruise which stops at Flåm there is a lovely train ride which has some stunning views and is a very popular tourist trip. We walked to the station as soon as the ship docked and booked our own tickets which worked out considerably cheaper than booking the ship's excursion and the only difference was they had someone escort them from the ship to the train (a few hundred yards) and everyone had to sit in one carriage.

We went on a Fjords cruise last year. Of the ports we visited, Flam was the most picturesque, there's not much there but the ship literally sails into the centre of town. There are plenty of walks you can do and also you can pick up the famous Flam train steps from the ship.
Stavanger was nice, we docked adjacent to the old part of town which is very nice.
Bergen was our second favourite place, it's a bustling town with plenty to see.
Generally, the scenery is spectacular, we loved to wake up early and sit on our balcony with a cup of tea, as we passed the beautiful waterfalls etc.
We was blessed with great weather, but although it was July, the temps were never higher than the mid 60s.

Thank you both. I like the look of Flåm, but sadly the Disney ships aren’t going there next year.

The only cruises that work for us date wise are:

25/8: going to Alesund, Geiranger, olden and stavanger

1/9: going to Copenhagen, Oslo, Kristiansand & Bergen

We could also do the Northern European ones which include Russia, which is somewhere I’d love to go, but I don’t know anything about any of the other ports. So I haven’t asked for prices for those.

We have no experience of any countries in Europe aside from France, Italy and Spain - so any advice is very much appreciated as currently all I’m going by is ‘pretty pictures!’ Lol!

There is a great trip report on the Disney Tourist blog if anyone is interested
Does it have to be Disney cruise?
We are doing P&O for 7 nights and it was about £2500.

I enjoyed our Disney cruises but the prices are extreme so I’m going to see how P&O compare

My dh really likes the look off the Russian trip. It's somewhere he's always wanted to go back to. I'm torn I want yo do either a Norway or an Alaskan one! Who have you asked for prices from? My US TA says to use the place holder option? I'm just confused

We use an American TA that we’ve used for years - she is getting me prices on Tuesday for 25/8 and 1/9 and will hopefully be able to put them both on reserve for us in our fav cabin!

Whilst I’d love to go to st Petersburg, I can’t get excited about the ports in Finland, Denmark and Sweden - although as I say, I am probably doing them an injustice as I know nothing about those places and am literally just comparing their google images unfavourably against the google images of all the Norwegian ports! So not exactly an informed decision! Lol!

Of the two you mentioned, the second one looks better to me. Oslo is a beautiful city, it's one of the nicest places I've been to. I would choose that one as Copenhagen and Bergen are well worth a visit as well.

Helsinki is interesting and would happily go there again. Went to Denmark years ago and enjoyed that but it was about 12 years ago! Decisions decisions!

Would you be able to post your prices on here? I can't book until the 7th 😁.

Also does that mean I can put a hold on 2 different cruises?
