We've just come back from the Panama Canal cruise with DCL. I would say it was excellent 2 weeks, but we would never get off again in Cartagena. The street sellers were very aggressive and you couldn't step 2 feet without being hassled - honestly, I am not exaggerating at all, it was awful and everyone we spoke to said the same thing. Such a shame as the place could be a great destination.

The other ports were great, especially Cabo San Lucas and Puerta Vallarta, two really nice ports.

For each PC cruise, DCL have Capt Ken Puckett on board to give talks about the canal. He is a fascinating guy and DCL have not done a PC cruise without him yet!

We went through the new locks, it took all day, but the evening bit was the best (I'll put some photos up later if I remember). Having the lights on just seemed to make it much better.

We're hoping to do it again in 2020 but eastbound this time.

Joa

Oh dear! We were in Cartagena in February and thought it was wonderful. We got a taxi from the port to the old town and wandered round (I printed off a walking tour from the internet). The architecture was stunning- the old Spanish colonial buildings with beautiful balconies. We walked on the city walls and sat in cafes/bars in lovely shady squares. I honestly can’t recall being hassled by street sellers - other than taxi drivers near the city gates trying to get our fare back to the ship, but it wasn’t a bother. We thought Cartagena was one of the highlights of our cruise! Just shows how different perceptions can be. We only did a partial transit of the canal via the new locks, but I think I prefer the old locks with the railway engines (mules) keeping the ships central in the locks.

This is my first go at posting photos. We were in Cartagena quite early, before it got really hot. We thought the old town was lovely.

It wasn't our perception, it was what happened. Maybe it's just DCL they hassle, who knows?
We also took a cab to the old town and the cab driver was brilliant - he waited for us despite us not knowing how long we'd be. Maybe he guessed we wouldn't be long!
Second to none, everyone we spoke to said the same thing, even those on the DCL excursions asks for their money back as they didn't get to enjoy anything.

Such a shame that not everyone got your experience.

Sorry, I wasn’t doubting your view/experience, I was referring to how different our experiences were.😎
