Speed Limiter

Hi
Here now and have a Ford Escape ( fairly basic ) but have noticed that when I turn it on it has a speed limiter fitted .
It's set at 80mph which obviously isnt a problem but I have never seen this before

Quite common on Ford USA cars, allegedly ... it’s called “MyKey”and I believe you can only change the settings if you have the admin key.
You may also find the volume control on the entertainment system will not go higher than 40%, so lots of forums say

Quite common on cars with cruise controls. Have had several in both the US and UK. Most of the time I have been able to change or disable this.

My Merc GLC has one. Not used it in the first 21 months of the lease and very unlikely it’ll get used in the last 3.

As I said previously, you need to have the admin key to change the settings on a Ford. So if the rental company has the key, they are the only ones to change settings
Here is a link to verify

I have had a speed limitter on my car in the Uk for many years now and I find it very useful. I set it around town and especially on the motorway in average speed limit areas.
Peugeou actually have a system which can read roadsigns and alos uses sat nav info to set the limit (if you want)
I find using the system I concentrate of the road and not my speed.

Why is it a problem? .. you can't drive that fast on the roads anyway and even if you found a private road you couldn't just go as fast as you like as your rental agreement would be null and void and if you have an accident for any reason you wouldn't be insured at all and thats not a situation you wnt to be in in the US.
