Help! Free car hire with virgin/Alamo

I have booked with virgin and have the ‘free’ car hire but of course need to pay the upgrade insurances.

Is it better to
1) pay the £365 quoted by virgin
2) take out a hire car insurance policy here in the UK? If this how does it work...do ALamo expect a large deposit in my cc?
Or 3) hire with someone else?

TIA

Many will suggest option 3.. but thats only if option one is more expensive. Few will recommend option 2 because of additional taxes and fee's locally and the risk of having your card maxed out if you have an accident. Those policies tend to limit to $100k which imo, is significantly under insuring the vehicle.

My bet would be it’s closer to the compact than the full size suv!
