Where to stay advice
Looking for west coast advice for a total newbie!
Thinking of changing next years florida trip to a California one. We def want to do disney, universal, Warner brother studio tour, touristy stuff in la (Hollywood sign, walk of fame etc) San Diego (zoo and sea world) and a few beach days. We not wanting to do San Francisco, Yosemite and lots of different stops would rather have less hotel stays (and another trip for what we miss). So with this in mind how many bases do we need? Just Anaheim, la and San Diego? How long is the drive between la and San Diego? What beaches do people recommend? Anywhere else in these areas people would recommend for 2 adults 2 children (7 and 12)? Would be visiting in August. Is there any water parks? Lots of questions. Any help appreciated! There is a water park at Six Flags which would be about 30-40 minutes north of an LA base around Hollywood area.
You would need a minimum of those three locations and if those are what you are sticking to then I'd probably look at a longer stay in San Diego for the beach stay. The Two LA bases would be at least 30-60 minutes from the beach so more day trips. Although you will want to make some of those day trips for things like Santa Monica. West coast isn't really a beach holiday kind of place for most. Far too many other things to be doing and the water isn't that warm, but you can make it one if you choose. |

19 nights is a decent amount of time and I’d probably consider adding in an extra stop somewhere.
Central LA roughly 4/5 nights (I like Burbank) Anaheim 3/4 nights San Diego 5 nights (never been but have researched going) It’s about 100 miles from Anaheim to San Diego and I’ve read trippies where families have gone for the day. I don’t think you really need to break the journey with an overnight stay unless you want to see something in particular on the way. Would you counsider Vegas for a few nights? I wouldn’t discount Vegas with children, there are plenty of things to do in Vegas that don’t include drinking and gambling! |
