Castaway Snorkling
Has anyone done this? Do you have to pre book the equipment or can you just turn up on the day? Are the masks pretty good? I only ask as when DD did the Typhoon Lagoon snorkle a few years ago the mask kept leaking but the DC ones were fab! Is there loads to see in the snorkle area or is it hit and miss?

We just turned up without pre-booking as we weren’t sure if DDs would want to do it on the day. No probs getting equipment though we did get it early on in the day. No complaints from DDs about their masks though DH says he would make the effort to take his own if we did it again. Also worth bearing in mind that the snorkelling is better the earlier in the day you can do it – the more people are in the sea, the more churned up the seabed gets so the visibility is reduced later in the day. That's what we found anyway. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tips Are you allowed to just take your own? I got the impression from reading it that there was a dedicated area for the snorkle hire and it says you have to wear their life vests too?

There is a large 'public' area for snorkelling and you can find hidden Disney items there!
Definitely buy your own and leave them in a bin on CC to save room in your luggage on the way home!

It is a dedicated area but you can take your own equipment, you just need to use their free snorkel vests or be prepared to be yelled at by the lifeguards until you do.
Not sure how old your children are but I'd also try and manage their expectations about what they will see - our eldest DD had read about all the hidden treasures that are there but we found that you have to go a fair way out to see anything like that which was difficult with another little one trying to hang onto you!

It's actually really good to use the vests as it saves energy .. Not sure why people are not keen on wearing them really
We didn't see the big treasure .. I'm not a fan of the sea though, so it was never likely to happen!

The equipment was fine but we didn't see anything at all. I didn't stay in long and got stung by a jelly fish. I booked this along with the bike ride and the floats, wish I had just stuck to the bike ride which was great. Its a lovely place.

I'm not sure either but I think the 'pros' don't like the buoyancy so they prefer to have it deflated if they wear one so they can dive down I'm assuming that everyone else who wasn't wearing one assumes (wrongly) that you have to pay for them. Whatever the reason we got fed up of hearing the lifeguard yelling as we were based near one of their stations!

Hmmm thanks, maybe we'll save our money and get our own... Children are 6 and 10 and I was imagining we might see fish etc bit like at DC I guess. Or we splash out a bit more and do the stingray thing.
