We have rest days planned so not booked any FP for those days - don't feel it is fair if no intention of using them. Would look at the time for availability if our plans changed

We book fast passes for the days we plan to use them. If we change plans and decide to go to a park during holidays, we just book what’s available. System allows people to be selfish, so many will be.

I have one day on my trip in September which I'm leaving free till I'm there as I don't know what I'm going to do. If I decide to go to a park I'll see what Fast Passes are available then. I'm certainly not going to book any on the offchance I might go. It's not fair on people who make definite plans.

I’m not sure I agree with you. If there’s no fast passes due to people taking them up and not riding, then those guests that couldn’t get a fast pass join the standby queue, thus making the standby longer.
Rather than getting a fast pass and going elsewhere and coming back to it later. It’s potentially the same volume of people, just in the standby line instead of some in the fast pass line. |

Do you think? We went to DLP at Easter and can honestly say we only used around 30% of our paper fast passes because the others ended up not being convenient as we were eating / in a different part of park / had gone back to hotel. I wish I could have cancelled them for people to use!

Have we got evidence that a FP for a 10.00am FOP for example that is cancelled at say 09.45am becomes available for somebody else to have?
I would like to think it does pop up but I have never seen anything online confirming this. As we know WDW releases FP's on a random basis during the day anyhow.

Yes I know, we probably should have done but usually we only had one (I was/am pregnant so couldn’t ride lots) and after one totally excruciating incident with a French person who thought we were trying to sell them something i’m afraid we got all British about it and failed!

We are about to go on our first trip. The first 12 of the 21 nights we are on site at disney and booked all of our fastpasses at 60 days out. We bought 21 day disney tickets and we are currently booking fastpasses for 30 days out a day at a time.
For our 60 day out fastpasses we booked fastpasses for every day, even the day that we might not use them. We don't know what the weather will be like, how the time difference will affect us, if one of us might just be too tired to stay for the fireworks/light show on the day we planned. For the 30 day out tickets we are booking we are going for roughly 6pm, 7pm and 8pm fastpasses as we know we have plans for the other days. There is a high likelyhood that we wont use these, however, as above, our plans might change. I would rather have some fast passes secured to leave us the option. If it gets to lunchtime on any day we have fastpasses booked for the evening and we know for sure we aren't going to use them I will cancel them off. I make no apologie for booking our full allocation of fastpasses at both 60 days and 30 days and leaving our options as open as possible for our whole trip. |

That's exactly my point, the same people in the same line on the same ride with the same capacity. You basically make the decision whether to allow some last minute guests to queue jump or not. Big benefit for the few that snap up cancelled fastpasses, or small benefit to the rest of the queue because if you don't cancel, theres nobody legitimately queue jumping ahead of them.
With paper fastpasses technically it was the same swings and roundabouts, but I was able to see the people that benefitted and selfishly that made me feel better. The facelessness of the computerised system takes that away. Booking stuff you might not use and denying others opportunity to do so, is a different question altogether, I'm simply saying that if you have a fastpass booked which you realise you won't use, cancelling it doesn't make you any better than somebody that doesn't... in my opinion, and I'm quite happy if you want to think differently.
