Activating tickets

Really stupid question alert, so have park tickets and staying offsite so I know I can only book fast passes 30 days in advance.
If I log on to MDE and put in the details do I activate my tickets there and then or are they valid from the first scan in the park?

You can activate your tickets any time but they won�t actually be used until you enter your first park.

Tickets are activated when you first use them to enter a park (main theme park, water park, mini-golf "park", etc).

You can link tickets to your account and book fastpasses before then and it doesn't 'activate' them. However, once linked, the tickets cannot be returned to a supplier for a refund.
