Being a bit Goofy
|
Son going to university. What do I need to buy?
I want to start putting together a bundle for him by purchasing a few bits when I see them. It’s all totally new territory for me, so some tips from others would be much appreciated.
I’d like to know what ‘must haves’ he will need and also some ‘maybes’. And any quirky or unusual items you might put in a bundle for him. Thanks in advance 🙂 |

2 of each plates bowls cups cutlery. No more it might not get washed up😀 Doorstop for propping open uni halls doors to make friends. Tub of celebrations and something alcoholic to break the ice. Mattress topper my daughter loved. A broken human tin for freshers flu. They all get ill at the start so barroca type thing paracetamol cough medicine maybe first defence stuff. If they can make contact with other people they may be sharing a kitchen with it might help with the 4 toasters 4 kettles 4 irons etc. DD took them luckily she did because the other 3 girls had none of them. Do a shop when you get there for basics like a decent stock of washing powder shampoo shower gel etc. Saves lugging it in the car. Expect nothing may come back so go with a basic kit. Aldi normally do a really good small clothes drier that folds up tiny. All DDs flat mates used her drier. Clothes hangers there might not be any if not only a few. Check the bed size and get duvet fitted sheets x2 cover x 2 to fit the bed. Lots of accomodation seemed to have 3/4 beds. Those peelable sticky strips. Dd had a vertical blind in her room that let in all the light so she stuck up a cotton throw thing for black out. As long as nothing damages the wall or they may charge for painting. Try not to take loads of stuff they will accumulate more and it all needs moving multiple times. Basic cook book like the brilliant nosh for students book. Uses cups and normal spoons for measuring. All recipes are easy to follow and give a price guide and how many portions.

Our daughter was the only one that bought a bundle of toilet rolls, supplied by us every time she came home
Hope he has a brilliant time. Melvin and Lesley

Clothes airer, hangers and an over the door coat hook rack have been my DDs must-haves. The post above is very good - except none of my DDs flat mates have ever used a doorstop.

My dd 17 was talking abut uni last night, I told her no unwanted pregnancies or social diseases. She said I’m never giving you a grandchild ever, She’s such a young 17 year old she looks about 12 without makeup! Going to look a at University of West Of England on Saturday but she really wants Southampton.

Trying for More Ears

One of the best things I bought for uni was one of those sets of plastic drawers as there wasn’t much storage in my room in halls. Also, plastic cups rather than glasses so people didn’t break them 😂 they lasted me the whole 3 years, none of my flat mates/house mates glasses lasted 3 months!
