Last BA 747 going out tomorrow

Jerry will be there to broadcast the last of BA’s Queen of the sky fleet departing Heathrow tomorrow morning.

They plan to do a circuit and fly over at Heathrow, so at least we get something from the boring toe rags.

A sad day yet somehow agonising in the current climate to see aircraft being taken out of service. Pity the parallel runway takeoff didn't go ahead. That would have been extra special.

Oh how I long to get back on an aircraft!

Me and Ds 2 ...now 43!...flew on one of these planes from Heathrow to Hong Kong the year after Chris Patten left Hong Kong...20 odd years ago!
It was in my quest to follow Michael Palin🥰
I remember feeling like royalty as the plane was so big.
We flew into the old airport..that was so scary.
I have been back since but with Emirates..but it just did not have that excitement that the first time did.
Not sure if I would go now with all the riots etc...how the world has changed in such a short time.

The last two BA 747's left their London Heathrow base this morning. At 7.47 am G-CIVB and G-CIVY pushed back for the final time. Sadly the similtaneous take off from both the North and South runways didn't take place due to the bad weather but they did manage to "meet" in the final photo above (taken from the BBC coverage on TV). G-CIVY in Landor livery was the first to take off followed by G-CIVB who after take off circled the airport and with great flying skills the flight crew carried out a final flypast over Heathrow at a height of 1000 feet (with a tiny wing salute) then flew off into the grey.

For all of us who have flown on a 747, no matter what airline operated the service we must all admit (well most of us) we were amazed at the sheer size and engineering of the aircraft.

Goodbye Queen of the Skies and thank you.
