Just a quick question

Am i right in thinking if i purchase DVC points to stay at the Grand Floridian i can also purchase the dining plan too ?

Yes, you can if the DVC points owner is happy to set it up for you. Personally I have never found it cheaper to buy the dining plan than to pay with actual money, so do check out whether it's worth it for you
