Advice please re driving in Florida
We are planning our next trip which is miles away. My daughter wants to hire a car for a few days. She will be 25 and a very good driver. She has never driven an automatic or driven abroad . Any tips ? Should she find a way of driving an automatic before we go ? I am far more concerned than she is an I am sure everything will be fine. It will be our usual mother and daughter trip.

It’s very easy to drive over there...I took my 4 year old granddaughter with me...so no backup. 🤣 for the first couple of days, I tucked my left leg back a bit to keep it out of the way. 🙂
Have fun. 😘

She could hire an automatic here for a day or two for practice. For your benefit more than hers !

Driving an automatic is so easy I don't think a confident driver should worry too much about practicing first.

It is easy to drive over there, but the first time I went I was worried about it as had never driven an automatic before, so I booked a lesson with an instructor in an automatic car, didn't feel so nervous then when I got to the states!

Driving an automatic is so easy. My 17 year old passed his test in a manual and then drove an automatic the next day. Took him 2 minutes to get used to and he kept saying “this is so easy”.
Driving in the US is also easy. Lanes are wide, cars drive slower, it’s all stop signs and traffic lights. She should have no problems. |

You don’t need to practise, it is easier than driving a manual car once you get used to it. Top tips- take your time getting used to the car as you are driving on the ‘wrong’ side of both the car and the road! Remember you can turn right on a red light (as long as there’s no sign telling you you can’t!). Also for the first few times you need to do a left turn, try and stay behind a car going the same way so you can follow them and get used to moving all the way over. It’s a weird experience at first.
I’m sure she will be fine, it’s great driving over there once you get used to it!
