Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.
Unfotunately, even gated communities have their issues, more so if they are unmanned. The tourist areas in Central Florida are generally safe but there are opportunist thieves everywhere, even in hotels. Generally, hotels take security very seriously. Some villa owners and villa communities are the same, others not so much. It's worth asking next time what security measures the villa and community has before considering a hotel, especially if you prefer the villa experience on the whole. |

Sorry to hear of your bad experience sounds like there were a few things not right with this villa from the start. As angelbabe says don't let it put you off villas hotels face the same challenges as villa communities maybe more so as more people are coming and going all the time.
The security of the individual home is most important on any type of community. Always check the home has a monitored alarm system and safe and use them. Some communities like ours have CCTV and manned security patrols 24/7 and also resident police officers are often found living on communities too. I hope you complained about the lack of security and condition of the property. Alison |

We've stayed in Lindfields twice, and are due to stay there again in November. All DIBB villas. I guess nowhere is totally safe, but we've always found Lindfields to be lovely - maybe it's a sign of the times and the economic situation in USA that we're hearing more about break ins now.
Really sorry to hear about your dreadful experience. Hope it didn't put you off Florida! |

Don't think that all villas and communities are unsafe because they aren't. Everywhere in the world can have break-ins at some point or other. Do give villas another go, the most important thing is the security which the villa gives, alarm which is monitored, etc., CCTV in the community. I am assuming this was a TO booking and if it was it bears out what many people have found this year that these villas are very often not kept up to standard. Try booking a villa through The Dibb next time and I'm sure you will have a totally different experience.

Anywhere can suffer from burglaries - whether away at a villa or hotel or at home. We were burgled back home some years ago, and it is a horrible experience. Hope this has not put you off Orlando. A guard-gated vacation community can offer more security than an open development.

No it wasn't a dibb villa it was an aoa via thomas cook it had an alarm and we think that's the only reason they didn't take anything as when I called the police they had been round that morning as our House alarm was going off but they said I had left the door open which I hadn't they failed to check the patio doors which had been broken in and said there was no crime as nothing was stolen and promptly left but there was no safe in the villa I honestly for the life off me don't know how anything was taken they walked past 3 I pads in the kitchen !
We were very lucky but it's really put us off at the lack off security and safety in the house I have complained to thomas cook and still waiting to hear back For anyone staying on lindfields it is a lovely estate we had a drive round and there are some lovely properties ours just wasn't and neither was our road it was old fashioned and dated and we were really disappointed as it was labelled as a superior villa Lindfields is a great location so close to disney lots off lovely restaurants near by and a huge walmart 5 mins away x |

Sorry to hear about your experiences, however wherever you go there are opportunists that will find a way in. There were several rooms broken into one of our holidays. This should not put you off villas if that is what you prefer. You can do some things to reduce any risk, such as staying at places that have security such as gated and manned communities or those with alarms.
