Our villa has cockroaches
Hi all
We are currently over here, we are told by the management company that they are as common as ants here And that the place has been treated and they die within 15 mins of entering The villa we are in has them, as we have seen baby ones and also cause a big adult one, horrible thing. Baby ones don't die until we catch or kill them, so obviously they are already in here What should we do? Is it acceptable for a holiday home we have paid to stay in to have these? |

Cockroaches are extremely common over here - the climate suits them perfectly - so that bit is true. Not so true is the fact that they will die within 15 minutes. Like hotels, villas should be treated regularly with pest control substances around all entrances and around the skirting boards of all internal rooms. Sooner or later these nasty critters will come in contact with the pesticide and they will eventually expire, albeit probably a few hours later. They can be very quick (and quite sneaky) in getting into a villa so leaving the doors open whilst you load or unload your luggage or shopping is not advisable. It is better to have all of your party near the door and enter or leave as a group rather than wander in or out in dribs and drabs.
If however you are finding babies too as well as adults, then it sounds like the property may need a re-treatment. Contact the management company again, tell them you have lots of babies as well as adults, and insist they arrange for an urgent visit by their pest control company.

Yes , while cockroaches may be common I have only ever seen one once and that was dead and in my garage
Your villa definitely needs a good respray ring the management and tell then especially about the babies They should not have survived long enough to get breeeding ..if they have managed to stay alive in a pest controlled area at all! Be firm and say you understand these things may happen sometimes , but you defintitely need a respray and pronto

Have to say we have never seen a cockroach in our villa and also have never heard that anyone else has either. We may just be lucky though. The villa is sprayed regularly inside and out. The only thing we have ever found is a few ants in the garage quickly dealt with by a spray.

We have seen the odd one or two over the years. This year I put the bedroom light on and fan and looked up and there was a cochroach in the light shade. It was running about and couldn't get out. The shadow on the shade made it look enormous. We spent about 2 hrs trying to kill it without knocking it out of the shade because we knew we wouldn't catch it if it got out as they are so fast.
We got it in the end but I was a bit edgy all night that there would be more. Thankfully we didn't see anymore all holiday so it was a one off. |

I agree with the other posting's, it does sound like it needs treating again, you will see 1 or 2 but you shouldnt see many more then that.

I agree with the other villa owners. The villa definitely needs a re-treatment. Ring the management company and let them know about the babies and insist you need action.

As already said the villa and outside perimeter should be treated on a regular basis. You will find cockroaches or palmetto bugs everywhere there is greenery as they get washed out of the trees in heavy downpours. You should not get live ones in the villa but even if you left a door open and one followed you in it should die very quickly as it would come across the treated "barrier" at the door. Babies are not good that means they are not being poisoned by the treatment barrier. Only ever seen one roach indoors it was in an hotel room, kids had been coming in and out and leaving the door open we were next to a garden part. Get the management out not with a can of raid the owner should be paying for licensed treatment.
