We've used the Disney gift cards to pay our dues for the last few years and we've already started paying off next year dues with them which is shown as a credit going forward.

Not sure what your Dues Overview page looks like when paying by Direct Cebit but might be worth checking your Dues Overview page.

If it's like ours and if you have more than one contract then click Pay by Contract, then click Pay Other Amount. Enter the amount you want to pay and that can be the full amount on the gift card or less. Scroll to Payment Method and Select Disney Gift Card. This opens up a box where you enter the 16-digit account number of the egift card.

When you submit the payment you receive an email plus details of the transaction similar to...

If it was through a legit company I'd probably do it, but not through a 3rd party, too many things could go wrong.

I used to pay my dues monthly using Sun Trust, but when I went through my divorce and tried to remove my ex wife from the account they became extremely unhelpful. As a result in recent years I've had to pay the full amount in one go so if this scheme also allowed me to buy the gift cards on a monthly basis to spread the cost whilst also enjoying a discount it would appeal to me.

Regardless of using the gift cards and getting a discount you can still pay your dues monthly without a US bank account you just effectively pay them in advance instead. I just onto my account and make an overpayment per contract every month then when January rolls around I only have a small amount of my dues left owing

I use my Halifax Clarity card each month, that way there are no foreign transaction fees. It is recorded as an over payment and then automatically comes off the next time they produce the bills.

I have paid mine this way for the last 3 years and it worked a treat.

If I could buy the cards directly from a bona fide retailer I would certainly do it, but giving large amounts of cash to an intermediary is asking to be defrauded.

The person talking to the various companies that supply discounted Disney gift cards has stated it will be direct with the company not through a third person/intermediary.

It might well take off but if that company only supplies the plastic gift cards then non-US residents won't be able to take advantage.

Therefore, I'm trying to gauge the take up from this website so I can feed that back, as any extra volume might swing it towards a company that also supplies the online egift option.

And I think this could be a game changer for any non-US resident as up to now we haven't been able to take advantage of purchasing discounted Disney gift cards.

Bear in mind, you can use these cards for almost anything at WDW, even your restaurant tips, as well as paying your annual dues.

Saving 5% plus at Disney is a way of life for many America's families, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we too can make similar savings.

So there's no commitment, we just want to know how many would be interested along with a rough amount required each year, so please either enter it in a reply to this thread or if you're already a MouseOwner member (or want to join up) then go to the following thread and enter the amount there but state you only require the egift card as you're an overseas DVC member.

UPDATE from zafiro on the MouseOwners forums #1457 at mouseowners/forums/sh...10166&page=146

The first part on BJ's will not include the egift card which is what we need, but zafiro is working with another company who with not only offer egift's and throughout the year but with no minimum spend. Anyway check it out...

UPDATE ON BJs:

- They will not have an ongoing discount arrangement with us. They will continue to offer what I call "flash sales" and have said that usually occurs only a few times during the year. This is what is going on with the current 8% discount for a minimum $5,000 purchase. There will always be a minimum purchase requirement that is large and it will have a limited time to buy.

- They have offered 9% and will go no higher, but it requires a SINGLE minimum purchase of $200,000. They will not count our singular purchases as one group for that discount. 9% is the maximum, no matter how much our group would purchase as a collective.

- They will not offer e-cards, so this will not be of any help to our international group, especially our large group of MOs from the UK.

- The largest denomination of card is $500.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS: Unless you have an IMMEDIATE need, please hold off on purchasing at BJs. Don't buy your MF amount yet!

HERE IS WHAT I'M WORKING ON that I'm hoping will come as close to what we'd like as possible:

- A sustained, ongoing portal or purchasing website that we can use as a group.

- We can buy throughout the year at the agreed upon discount (I'll call this the "initial discount").

- There will be no minimum purchase requirement on any order. You can buy as little or as much as you like throughout the year.

- The choices will include physical gift cards, e-cards and in all denominations including $1000.

- We will have a way to track our group's cumulative purchases and can use that information to increase our discount level above the initial discount percentage.

I'd be interested in $2-4000 as you can also use the cards for Disney cruises. Loads of people do it to enable them a nice discount on a cruise.
Like others, if it was through a 3rd party I'd chicken out, but as this would direct, I'd defo be interested.

Thanks
Joa

Latest UPDATE from zafiro on the MouseOwners forums #1469 at
mouseowners/forums/sh...10166&page=147

UPDATE:

I'm working on one more potential option. I've learned there are many hurdles to doing this on a mass scale with individual buyers going directly through the corporate option due to purchasing system limitations and privacy policies. I believe the best way now is to work backward with a reseller who understands our entire potential and our variable requests. I'm working on that now.

A much harder option would be to develop our own co-op or resale company, but that would require quite a bit of effort and risk, but it could be a way to snag a guaranteed 10% for everyone in the "pool" if we can figure out collectively how to mitigate risk and up front costs. If anyone has experience with an aspect of this, please let me know. We have enough potential volume - over $300M in annual mfs currently being paid out to DVC - to become a formidable corporate purchaser / reseller.

Bottom line: 10% is as good as it gets as a direct pass through (reseller makes no profit) unless you get a "special" or other incentive program offered by a reseller who is working to increase a volume target or other metric beyond profiting. This doesn't include other stackable discounts that combine to add up to a greater discount.

Also, it's almost impossible to find a way to sell e-cards to international buyers unless they have a credit card account that has a valid US address.

Still working it...

Zafiro is finding it difficult to find a company willing to sell ecards to those members without a US address, but we haven't given up hope just yet.

In the meantime the wife and I have tested out a few options on trying to purchase Disney eGift cards at their full dollar price from the UK.

So we will start a new thread on our experiences as it might prove to be an ongoing option for those wishing to send as an egift for a birthday or Christmas present to family and friends going on a Disney holiday. And also for those DVC members with a US dollar PayPal account it should be a cheaper option as there's no need to transfer into sterling first at PayPal's lower exchange rate.

New post will be titled How to buy Disney eGift cards from ShopDisney and Target at full price, includes a PayPal $ option
